Historia
Playing music should be as simple and natural as drawing a breath, yet most musicians are hindered by self-consciousness, apprehension, self-doubt, and stress. Before we can truly express our inner self, we must first learn to be at peace and overcome the distractions that can make performance difficult. Kenny's remarkable work deals directly with these hindrances, and presents ways to let our natural creative powers flow freely with minimal stress and effort.

I loved this book.
Revisado: 02-25-25
This book was such a surprise. I had never heard of the book or the author. I was scrolling through titles one sleepless night and picked it. Or, did it pick me. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Alden tells his story in such a way that you want to pursue an Unstoppable Mindset even though that wasn't a goal (it is now, though) I really enjoyed hearing all about SEAL training even though I've never been in the military. Profound respect that he endured and thrived and found a way to pass on his unstoppable mindset so that the rest of us can benefit. I'm purchasing the Kindle edition of this book too because there's just too much good stuff in this story.

I really got a lot out of this book and I am not a binge eater. However, I am a recovering compulsive overeater. I enjoyed how Kathryn discussed - in so much detail - her story. I'm not sure how she remembered all of it. Her description of her journey addressed so many of the issues I had to encounter when I was recovering from compulsive overeating such as what to eat and how to eat as a normal person. How I achieved my recovery is different from how Kathryn achieved hers, but our two stories parallel each other in so many ways, as in it all started with a diet - mine when I was 12.

Historia
Thelonious Monk is the critically acclaimed, gripping saga of an artist's struggle to "make it" without compromising his musical vision. It is a story that, like its subject, reflects the tidal ebbs and flows of American history in the 20th century. To his fans, he was the ultimate hipster; to his detractors, he was temperamental, eccentric, taciturn, or childlike. His angular melodies and dissonant harmonies shook the jazz world to its foundations, ushering in the birth of "bebop" and establishing Monk as one of America's greatest composers.

Revisado: 06-10-21
I really enjoyed this book. It was long but so packed with history and side stories that greatly enhanced the story of T Monk. I am not a jazzer but am interested in learning about Thelonius Monk. I have purposely sought out and listened to the pieces that the author mentions and his story makes the music great

Historia
More than anyone before him - more than Beethoven, Byron, even the preternatural Paganini - it was Franz Liszt who created one of the most enduring archetypes of the Romantic era: that of the artist "who walks with God and brings down fire from heaven in order to kindle the hearts of humankind." For every lover of music, Liszt remains someone you must understand, and this eight-lecture series is an ideal place to begin your acquaintance with both the man and his music.

Excellent introduction to Listz
Revisado: 07-11-20
I was never interested in pursuing/playing any of Listz’s piano pieces. Well I’ll still not because they are far above my skill level BUT I will start to listen to a lot more Listz’s work. They are incredible. Once again Dr Greenberg provided the perfect context to present Listz and his amazing music. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

He is approaching his mid-40s, so the time to do this is now. He at last has the financial means to do nothing but train.

This book and narration was so good. I’m recovering from an injury (unrelated to running) and listened to Matt’s story while getting back into running. Not there yet but the final words and message of the book really meant a lot to me. As I continue my process of becoming my fittest and enjoying running I will remember those words. Excellent job, Matt. Thanks for this book😎

Historia
Deena Kastor was a star youth runner with tremendous promise, yet her career almost ended after college, when her competitive method - run as hard as possible, for fear of losing - fostered a frustration and negativity and brought her to the brink of burnout. On the verge of quitting, she took a chance and moved to the high altitudes of Alamosa, Colorado, where legendary coach Joe Vigil had started the first professional distance-running team. There she encountered the idea that would transform her running career: the notion that changing her thinking - shaping her mind to be more encouraging, kind, and resilient - could make her faster than she’d ever imagined possible.

Wonderful
Revisado: 02-22-20
I really enjoyed this book. I read the book on my Kindle a few months ago and got a lot out of it. I was living in Mammoth Lakes when Deena was training for the 2004 Olyimics and had heard of her, but I didn’t appreciate the magnitude of the marathon pursuit. Reading her book was nostalgic but also relative to me now as I am now a runner (having evolved from cycling). But listening to her tell her story, for me, was beyond inspirational. I so enjoyed her journey and her ever expanding perspective of life and the experiences and opportunities that it presents.

Historia
At the verge of turning 40, Peter Sagal - brainiac Harvard grad, short, bald Jew with a disposition toward heft, and a sedentary star of public radio - started running seriously. And much to his own surprise, he kept going, faster and further, running 14 marathons and logging tens of thousands of miles on roads, sidewalks, paths, and trails all over the US and the world, including the 2013 Boston Marathon, where he crossed the finish line moments before the bombings.

I so enjoyed this book. Yes, I am a runner but even my non-runner husband enjoyed everything. The narration by the author is fantastic. I didn't know who Peter Sagal was before this and now can't wait to listen to his programs and read his articles (past , present and future) in Runner's World.
