Historia
In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Outstanding. No Horror
Revisado: 10-29-24
Stephen King is such an excellent storyteller, I wish that his reputation was not for writing horror stories. I would have picked up a book by him a long time ago. This is one more excellent story, each paragraph a story into itself. There is lots of suspense, quite a bit of action, and a whole lot of heart.

Historia
From the chef behind Momofuku and star of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious—an intimate account of the making of a chef, the story of the modern restaurant world that he helped shape, and how he discovered that success can be much harder to understand than failure. Full of grace, candor, grit, and humor, Eat a Peach chronicles David Chang’s switchback path. Along the way, Chang gives us a penetrating look at restaurant life, in which he balances his deep love for the kitchen with unflinching honesty about the industry’s history of brutishness and its uncertain future.

Lots of apologies for and explanations of bad behavior. Not much about food and cooking.

Historia
The Ramirez women of Staten Island orbit around absence. When thirteen‑year‑old middle child Ruthy disappeared after track practice without a trace, it left the family scarred and scrambling. One night, twelve years later, oldest sister Jessica spots a woman on her TV screen in Catfight, a raunchy reality show. She rushes to tell her younger sister, Nina: This woman's hair is dyed red, and she calls herself Ruby, but the beauty mark under her left eye is instantly recognizable. Could it be Ruthy, after all this time?

Please! No author narration.
Revisado: 06-14-23
Through Audible’s superb recordings, we are accustomed to performances not readings. The author reads this novel like a spoken word poem. Which it is not. Her regional dialect is distracting and at odds with her NewYurican characters. The story is told in four voices. The audio would have benefited greatly from four readers, not one. This recorded book is a miss Audible.

Historia
Laid back, ultra–California cool, the former cop turned PI begins each day with the Dawn Patrol, a close-knit group of surfers, best friends who not only ride waves together but have one another's backs out of the water. It's the life Boone loves, all he wants. To him, "There's no such thing as a bad day at the beach." So when one of their own is murdered - especially an icon like Kelly Kuhio, a local hero - and another surfer, a young punk from the Rockpile Crew, stands accused, the small world of Pacific Beach is rocked to its core.

Another great one
Revisado: 04-17-23
Don Winslow can tell a story of three generations in one sentence. Just as I began to wonder about all the tangential short stories, Winslow began to string those beads onto the beautifully crafted story line. A character study. A mystery. A procedural. A love story. Winslow well done.

Historia
Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

Revisado: 03-15-22
I enjoy reading the stories about IQ. This book had the stories of several different characters in it and made it difficult for me to stay engaged and follow the various plot lines. In the end the author does deliver, however, the end is not the end. There clearly will be another IQ book, that one focusing on IQ’s girlfriend Grace

Every Four Minutes!
Revisado: 11-12-19
I love Lewis Black, and these rants are funny, incisive, and worth the listen. HOWEVER. They are recorded in four minute clips; this means every four minutes the listener has to open a new segment as if it is a new book. This is very annoying and hard to do when one is driving or otherwise occupied. Audible? Are you listening?

Dysfunctional Family of the Year
Revisado: 09-24-19
Interesting story but after a while it was neither informative nor entertaining. It would have been nice to learn more about hoarding and hoarders but the author tried to touch on many societal taboos and mental health issues without any substantive information. The story lost focus which made it hard to suspend disbelief or care about the characters.
