I have been experiencing tremendous feelings of grief since losing my oldest friend, my rock, and the love of my life in November 2024. Not only do I have the void that his transition has created, but I am questioning everything I believe is “me”. Every aspect of my life has been touched by his death.

Due to being so distressed I have listened to several chapters at a time daily, but not doing the exercises. I wanted to JUST listen to it first. I finished the book this evening, and I actually looking forward to listening to this again, and actively doing the homework and exercises this time.

I appreciate that the book is reassuring, and actually very much in alignment with how I believe ours souls transition from this earthly plain. I appreciate the focus on “love” and “forgiveness”. I obviously enjoyed the book, but more importantly I appreciate the glimmer of peace it’s given me. Grief has been relentless. I’m looking forward to having joy and peace again. I know it starts with me, but since I have been so distressed it’s been hard to organize my thoughts. Matt has provided a good base and tools for me to procede towards this. Thank you, Matt.

The first John Rebus book I enjoyed was Saints of the Shadow Bible (#19). I liked it so well I decided to try the series. It was interesting to see Rebus transform from being almost mechanical and disengaged to become a no-nonsense force of authority not to be toyed with. The book seemed a little slow at first, but kept gaining momentum. Now, I'm officially hooked!

This was my favorite book of this series. I had read it a few months back and while doing some painting projects around the house and decided I would listen to the story while doing so. Sometimes hearing the book being narrated does nothing for the story, however that was not the case with this book. Wee William is huge, and he is quite the warrior, yet he's also man that understands worthwhile values in life. It's these very values that he wants, and and yet simultaneously he fears responsibility of that endears me to Wee William. To him being a husband and having family is the most important thing a man can do in his life. What's not to love about that? He worries more about what he considers his shortcomings rather than focusing on what it is he has to give someone he loves .... namely Nora. There were times I laughed out loud at the turmoil William had as he came to terms with his feelings. Also, when Duncan's wife goes into labor I found humor in Duncan and William's reactions to the birth. This is by far my favorite book of the series. I enjoyed Williams character in the previous books and he did not disappoint in this book.
