Historia
Can God handle our hardest questions, biggest struggles, and secret doubts? We instinctively assume he cannot. We figure giving voice to those things will bring shame, rejection, and distance from him. But what if our hard questions don't need to function as an off-ramp from Christianity but can lead us closer to his heart? What if he is not afraid of our doubts but instead reveals himself in them? In Can I Say That?, Brenna Blain brings her voice to those who feel unsafe or unwelcome in the church, acknowledging the incongruity between the church's actions and believers' lived experiences.

Brenna is inspiringly honest, and she bravely normalizes the experiences we are never invited to talk about in church

Historia
Sam McKenna has never turned down a dare. And she's not going to start with the last one her brother gave her before he died. So Sam joins the first-ever class of girls at the prestigious Denmark Military Academy. She's expecting push-ups and long runs, rope climbing and mud crawling. As a military brat, she can handle an obstacle course just as well as the boys. She's even expecting the hostility she gets from some of the cadets who don't think girls belong there.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Lots of books out there with heroines from a post-apocalyptic dystopia, and some of them are great, but this book is refreshing because its heroine shines in the here and now.
What other book might you compare Rites of Passage to and why?
It's similar to a lot of YA books in theme, but less universal because the setting and plot are distinctly modern.
Which scene was your favorite?
Love the scene in which the main character comes to terms with and learns the truth behind the death of her brother (you learn he's died in the beginning). It's raw and real and her reaction is so true to character.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Proving she belongs might cost her life.
