Historia
After a decade spent in isolation in the Ugandan jungles thinking about stuff, David Cross has written his first book. Known for roles on the small screen such as "never-nude" Tobias Funke on Arrested Development and the role of "David" in Mr. Show with Bob and David, as well as a hugely successful stand-up routine full of sharp-tongued rants and rages, Cross has carved out his place in American comedy.

Lazy? audio book listeners
Revisado: 01-23-23
David Cross is brilliant and often hilarious. But this book feels disjointed.
Just an FYI, people who listen to audiobooks are typically multitasking. We are driving a car, folding laundry, walking a dog, or working out at the gym. Listeners are not lazy, as Cross states over and over during the audio version. We also buy books to read when we have time for the luxury of sitting around. Calling us lazy is ironic because in “I Drink for a Reason” Cross chronicles a lot of the very unproductive uses of his time.
I respect his jaded irreverence while offering up a view from the trenches.

Historia
David Spade is best known for his harsh "Hollywood Minute" sketches on SNL, his starring roles in movies like Tommy Boy and Joe Dirt, and his seven-year stint as Dennis Finch on the series Just Shoot Me. Now, with a wit as dry as the weather in his home state of Arizona, the "comic brat extraordinaire" delivers a memoir.

100% Interesting
Revisado: 09-10-21
David Spade’s autobiography is a fascinating insiders look at creating a career in comedy from scratch. I found myself laughing out loud at some of his asides and funny sound effects. Great to have him as the reader. Spade also corners the market on snarky but is self-aware enough to offer an honest retelling of the highs and lows of his life, particularly his poignant recounting of his experiences with Chris Farley and a harrowing attack by a personal assistant—quite riveting. Indeed a book that is 100% interesting.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Historia
Anyone who saw an episode of Saturday Night Live between 1999 and 2006 knows Rachel Dratch. She was hilarious! So what happened to her? After a misbegotten part as Jenna on the pilot of 30 Rock, Dratch was only getting offered roles as "Lesbians. Secretaries. Sometimes secretaries who are lesbians." Her career at a low point, Dratch suddenly had time for yoga, dog- sitting, learning Spanish - and dating. After all, what did a forty-something single woman living in New York have to lose?

Smart, funny, real! Just like Rachel. Winning tone - ended up cheering for her and look forward to more of her writing and on-screen work.

Historia
As close as sisters for 20 years, Sarah and Lauren have been together through high school and college, first jobs and first loves, the uncertainties of their 20s and the realities of their 30s. Sarah, the only child of a prominent intellectual and a socialite, works at a charity and is methodically planning her wedding. Lauren - beautiful, independent, and unpredictable - is single and working in publishing, deflecting her parents' worries and questions about her life and future by trying not to think about them herself.

No story
Revisado: 07-27-16
Not an interesting use of my time. Some nice descriptive passages and dialogue is fine, but certainly not to the level of literary work. Therefore I expect more story. The protagonist never won me over. Apathetic. Perhaps pretty, but by Manhattan standards, not even particularly rich - which is neither here or there, just an observation. Just so many better books with a real story.,this was a waste of time, which for a reader is our most precious commodity.
