Not Just An Autobiography
Revisado: 04-24-23
This a wonderful history of the first decades of the 20th century in our country and in Europe. A splendid look at the life and times of a youth from the Midwest whose curiosity and drive made him a gifted reporter and broadcaster and, as we see in this volume, historian.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

A Narration Almost Well Done
Revisado: 11-20-19
I found the writing and narration well done, except for the tendency of the author/narrator to insert 'f***ing' throughout. It's simply not necessary for good story telling and it seems oddly childish in contrast to the important cultural themes developed by James Dommek, Jr. I worked on Alaska matters for over a decade and have great respect for Alaska natives, their hardships, heritage and leaders. Partly from my experiences I was drawn to Dommek's recounting of the life and crimes of Teddy Kyle Smith and was greatly impressed by his strong craftsmanship in weaving into the narrative audio recordings from various sources, including police investigations and court proceedings. I recommend the book, although with a regret that the expletives detract from an otherwise strong presentation.
