While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Another excellent piece of work by Sawyer. And by the creative team. I am always impressed by Sawyer's ability to get difficult scientific and social concepts across in such an easily understandable manner. And yet, the subject matter never overshadows the twists and turns of the story itself.

Follow the author and his family and friends in their rollicking adventures as they sled down the dreaded Sleddin' Road, ride in a Volkswagen Rabbit that smokes more than a steam locomotive, and practice "Premeditated Bear Situation Thinking" while out in the woods. Just try not to laugh as you hear about the cutthroat cookie-decorating contest of Christmas 2007 or as the author guinea-pigs his younger brother in a game of spit wads.

These are hilarious stories. Campy, fun and perfectly narrated. There were several moments where I laughed out loud. And it's helpful, too, I really know how to defend myself from bears now.

What made the experience of listening to Blackthorn Key the most enjoyable?
Great narrator and wonderful story that had tantalising cliffhanger after cliffhanger.
What does Ray Panthaki bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Brings the character to life. And his accent suits the story perfectly.

Was really impressed by this first book in the series. And loved the historical tidbits in the background.
