Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

I really did not like this book
Revisado: 08-16-24
The main character is so dislikable and I read a lot of books with dislikable main characters (think sociopaths and cannibals). This main character is so malignant and self important that she has inserted herself into these other people's lives only to make them worse. There are essentially no redeeming qualities. I am only an hour out from finishing this book and I do not think I can take it anymore. I cannot listen to such an obnoxious internal dialogue anymore. I bet a million dollars this author is divorced and super self righteous. Oh, and she also has her master's degree. I am unsubscribing from whatever substack recommended this painful book to me.

Historia
Remy and Alicia, a couple of insecure service workers, are not particularly happy together. But they are bound by a shared obsession with Jen, a beautiful former coworker of Remy’s who now seems to be following her bliss as a globe-trotting jewelry designer. In and outside the bedroom, Remy and Alicia's entire relationship revolves around fantasies of Jen, whose every Instagram caption, outfit, and new age mantra they know by heart. Imagine their confused excitement when they run into Jen, in the flesh, and she invites them on a surfing trip to the Hamptons.

Absolutely not what I expected
Revisado: 08-05-24
The description of this book in no way says that this is a sci-fi book. The first half goes along with the synopsis and then everything becomes completely unhinged and non sensical. The blurb about it being psychedelic horror does not suit what this book is actually about. If you want to listen to a book about criminally boring people and about a monster, this is for you.

Historia
As far as Jolene is concerned, her interactions with her colleagues should start and end with her official duties as an admin for Supershops, Inc. Unfortunately, her irritating, incompetent coworkers don’t seem to understand the importance of boundaries. Her secret to survival? She vents her grievances in petty email postscripts, then changes the text color to white so no one can see. That is until one of her secret messages is exposed. Her punishment: sensitivity training (led by the suspiciously friendly HR guy, Cliff) and rigorous email restrictions.

Started Great..
Revisado: 08-05-24
I really liked the beginning of this book and enjoyed the dark humor. Then towards the middle, the plot started to get unbelievable (the fake relationship). Then it got boring. Then the author contorted things in a way that was not completely believable to make the ending tie up nicely.

Historia
Lydia is hungry. She's always wanted to try Japanese food. Sashimi, ramen, onigiri with sour plum stuffed inside - the food her Japanese father liked to eat. And then there is bubble tea and iced-coffee, ice cream and cake, and foraged herbs and plants, and the vegetables grown by the other young artists at the London studio space she is secretly squatting in. But, Lydia can't eat any of these things. Her body doesn't work like those of other people.

Short Book
Revisado: 02-20-24
This is a short book with a moderately interesting theme. Had this book been half the length with a less condescending sounding narrator, I might have enjoyed it. By the end, I wanted to scream "yes girl, I GET IT, YOU CAN'T EAT REGULAR FOOD". Also, the major plot hole of her not being able to find animal blood was super irritating.

unlikable characters, holes in the storey..
Revisado: 08-03-18
I struggled to finish this book. From the begining every character was unlikable in some way. Like another reader, I was frustrated but the overall stupidity and greed of the characters. I hung on until the ending thinking their might be a big reveal that warranted the good reviews. The ending was tied up far too conveniently to be even remotely satisfying.
