Historia
Food is one of life's great joys. So why has eating become such a source of anxiety and confusion? Bee Wilson shows that in two generations the world has undergone a massive shift from traditional, limited diets to more globalized ways of eating, from bubble tea to quinoa, from Soylent to meal kits. Paradoxically, our diets are getting healthier and less healthy at the same time. For some, there has never been a happier food era than today: a time of unusual herbs, farmers' markets, and internet recipe swaps.

11 hours of " Modern diets are crap and you are crap from eating it"
Revisado: 02-17-25
The entire book is focused of telling us that chips and fast food are bad (Gasp, what a news flash) . No insights, nothing new. if I wanted a lecture on modern diet, I'd call my mother.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Booming loud music and sound effects unrelated to story

Story was good, and narrator was fine, but the producers who left that frequent booms of discordant music should be fired

I have listened to this entire series, but the author has recently decided to start narrating her own books. Her skill set is in writing, not narrating. Please return to Johanna Parker

But Flora is not like other bees. With circumstances threatening the hive's survival, her curiosity is regarded as a dangerous flaw, but her courage and strength are assets. She is allowed to feed the newborns in the royal nursery and then to become a forager, flying alone and free to collect nectar and pollen.

I really enjoyed this book. With the world focusing on how much bees mean to us, it was interesting to see what they mean to each other.

Every Cliché in the Book
Revisado: 05-10-23
The author took every trite phrase and character/plot trope and threw them into a blender. This came out.
I got through the 1st hour by counting the clichés; after that, I just stopped listening. Don't bother.

I would happily read a prequel series about The Museum! Well written, and I only ended up wanting to slap the crud out of one of the (almost exclusively) female characters. :) . Interesting premise too.

Historia
Who invented beds? When did we start cleaning our teeth? How old are wine and beer? Which came first: the toilet seat or toilet paper? What was the first clock? Every day, from the moment our alarm clock wakes us in the morning until our head hits our pillow at night, we all take part in rituals that are millennia old. Structured around one ordinary day, A Million Years in a Day reveals the astonishing origins and development of the daily practices we take for granted.

Childish
Revisado: 05-04-23
The book had some potential as a lightly factual chronicle of daily life through the ages. Instead, it veers to the asinine and juvenile, using as many words for toilet activities as possible. Might be mildly useful for a particularly dense 12 year old.
