Historia
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

I'm Hooked
Revisado: 04-10-25
At first I thought oh no this is not for me - I don't want to be in the head of a sadistic killer, but quickly that changed to being in the head of a very cool detective. I love when other people in a book like and respect the main character. Anyway I am hooked and just put the next two books in this series into my cart and I can see that all of my credits are going to John Sandford in the future. I loved the fast pace and edge of my seat suspense. The narrator - Richard Ferrone, was perfect.

Historia
Growing up on his family’s cattle farm in western Iceland, young Orri has gained an appreciation for the beauty found in everyday things: the cavorting of a newborn calf, the return of birdsong after a long winter, the steadfast love of a good (or tolerably good) farm dog. But the outer world still beckons, so Orri leaves his no-nonsense Lithuanian Jewish mother and his taciturn father, Pabbi, to attend university in Reykjavík.

A fan of Miller for life
Revisado: 03-20-25
I loved The Memoirs of Stockholm Sven so much that when I saw a new book by Nathaniel Ian Miller was coming out I pre-ordered it and then gobbled it up in three days. This author has the uncanny ability to get into the head of his characters to such an extent that you would swear this was an autobiography, and Olafur Darri Olafsson, the narrator with the soothing voice, well he is fantastic - you will swear he is telling us his own story. You will get so lost in his unhurried calm narration that you will ask yourself how can this not be the author himself.
The story is just so accurate to real life - the scenes depicted of water troughs, the mud, the quiet in the room when the family reads books and then hides from an annoying neighbor, the excitement of new love, the wind ripping at the plastic covered hay bales torn by ravens - I feel as if I were there too. And isn't that the magic of reading - to take 26 letters and have the author mix them up over and over to have an adventure, an experience, that feels authentic - that is real magic.
And if you have not read The Memoirs of Stockholm Sven you must - it is a favorite of mine.

Revisado: 01-18-25
This is a very depressing book. It must’ve been the author’s intent to bum people out because there is no hope here.

Unfortunately I have to return this after 1 hour. The author is reading the text without much inflection or change of voice for different characters. His reading just doesn't hold my attention.

I don't understand the positive reviews
Revisado: 01-03-25
I am on chapter 20, I really don't know why anyone would enjoy this book, and I cannot return it because I bought it on a two for one sale. It's not that the story is bad, it is because it is so boring. I thought I would get an idea of what it was like back then but not so.

A welcoming refuge with its tempting pantry, shelves of books and inquisitive dog, Caroline Eden finds comfort away from the road in her basement Edinburgh kitchen. Join her as she cooks recipes from her travels, reflects on past adventures and contemplates the kitchen’s unique ability to tell human stories. This is a hauntingly honest, and at times heartbreaking, memoir with the smell, taste and preparation of food at its heart.

Totally my kind of book - travel and food
Revisado: 11-27-24
I love the book, I love the stories and especially how the history of the countries is juxtaposed with the present day. But I wish there was a PDF so I could easily start on making things such as pasties. The recipes for some really obscure to me, but common to the countries she visits, are clearly delineated in the chapters so it won't be impossible, still...Anyway, I really enjoyed the way Darwin the dog is intermixed into the stories, great name, great dog. The author is very brave to go the places she (and her husband) traveled to, and many times by herself! At my age I have to be an armchair traveler but I can still cook and re-listen as I am cooking as the book conjures up images of the restaurants, museums, cafes, friends, her kitchen, walking trails and cloudberries she experienced.

Never before have I thought the idea behind a book was so incredibly clever! I am now going to read all of this author's work, I am that impressed. The narrator was perfect and I loved setting the timer for 30 minutes, after bookmarking, and going to sleep with his voice.

It’s fun to read something about a bad guy that he doesn’t know yet - I laughed quite a few times during my listen. It’s a pleasure to be once again in the proverbial arms of such a wonderful writer and great narrator.

Historia
Jacob Tomsky has worked in hotels for more than a decade, doing everything from valet parking to manning the front desk. He's checked you in, checked you out, separated your white panties from the white bed sheets, parked your car, tasted your room service, cleaned your toilet, denied you a late check out, given you a wake-up call, eaten M&Ms out of your mini-bar, laughed at your jokes, and taken your money. And in Heads in Beds, he pulls back the curtain on the hospitality business.

Revisado: 08-16-24
It's more, much more, an autobiography of a black woman, and don't forget that, don't worry you won't
'cause she keeps reminding you. I would not be disappointed if the blub about the book had been honest. It was not. And though I got used to the lisp after 30 minutes or so I can't help but be puzzled why someone with a speech impediment would not hire a reader.
