Historia
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Meh
Revisado: 01-31-23
Like the other reviews say, this book goes on a lot of tangents. Often I found myself not listening to the story at all just to be confused when the protag is reminiscing about the past. About that? It feels like there's no obvious transition between these. One second protag is talking to a friend, then it just launched into a long tangent of something in the past. Most bits were fine but I just really got bored often. That and there's a lot of sex. It feels like the protag is fantasizing about booba or getting laid in every chapter just about. I don't mind some lewd but it really felt like it was too focused on? I don't know. This series is definitely not for me.

A crashed wedding. A scorned vampire. A necromancer's fury...Damian Vesik is no hero. At least, not according to the magical community that turns a blind eye to his battles against evil. So he chalks it up as one more thankless mission when he’s forced to stop his vampire sister from murdering her ex’s entire bridal party....

A constant 1 to 11 tone shift.
Revisado: 07-13-21
My main complaint is the excessive laughter, hollering, smirking, grinning, joking scenes. Main Character is often at times okay, but often at times there's a lot of joviality despite the urgency of a situation. For example, oh, MC has to do this otherwise some bad things are going to happen in the world, and it's going to suck. MC just does his own thing for awhile, until it's nearly or too late. Then there's the constant tone shifts that are so bizarre. There will be the aforementioned joking and wholesome(?) moments, then suddenly an antagonist, henchmen or whatever will bust through the door, have a five minute whacky fight that seems too high tensioned or fast paced, and they run away. That's been most of the first book.
Not to mention, as some reviews won't say, the constant eyebrow movement the book will say. Not to mention the constant "She laughed, I laughed, we all laughed" or something akin to it. I'm sure perhaps the other books are fine? But the first one is too much of a slog for me. I'm being fed vague information on the world, and character backgrounds I have no context unless I get a flashback, and yet I feel like I'm supposed to care more than I should for some characters, or know what they're talking about. Maybe it's just me? Just take heed going into this.
Narrator did a good job though.

In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 05-16-18
I really love this series so far, it feels almost like a guilty pleasure though. However, Jeff Hays seriously puts in so much work voicing the characters. It's almost a shame he isn't in the second book. This one is a lot more action-packed than the second book. I totally recommend this book though, my only gripe is the long segments when viewing "stats."

Refreshing Fantasy
Revisado: 08-30-15
What made the experience of listening to House of Blades the most enjoyable?
The originality of it, I hadn't quite expected how some people got their powers in the book, but I liked the idea of it and the perspective of morality in the book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The protagonist is pretty great because he works hard to achieve his goals. I'm really looking forward to future editions.
What does Will Wight bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The emotion of it, there's more in voice than just writing, at least to me.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A thrilling fantasy action.
Any additional comments?
Really well done, I'm hoping the next one will come out soon!

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Better than expected.
Revisado: 06-21-15
Would you consider the audio edition of The Fold to be better than the print version?
Yes actually. Though I don't have much time for books I usually enjoy audio books during my shift.
What did you like best about this story?
The concept is pretty solid, I wasn't expecting the direction it was heading towards.
What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?
He can easily do a Morgan Freeman. Just kidding, but he can deepen his voice quite a bit and make a character sound completely different.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Game over man game over.
Any additional comments?
Nope.

A good horror story.
Revisado: 11-12-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Wolves of London to be better than the print version?
I don't have it in print version, but I do enjoy the narrator's voice quite a bit to set the tone especially his voice acting for more bass heavy voiced characters.
What did you like best about this story?
The way it started, I was contemplating how it would turn out to be a horror story.
Which character – as performed by Ben Onwukwe – was your favorite?
The Surgeon.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Unexpecting.
Any additional comments?
I really look forward to the second book! I hadn't realized this was going to be a series and now that I know I'm very eager for the next book.

Historia
Matt Hollis is the current wielder of the holy weapon, DÄMOREN. With it, he stalks and destroys demons. A secret society called the VALDUCANS has taken an interest in Matt's activities. They see him as a reckless rogue - little more than a "cowboy" corrupted by a monster - and a potential threat to their ancient order. As knights and their sentient weapons begin dying, Matt teams up with other hunters of his kind such as LUIZA, a woman with a conquistador blade; ALLAN, an Englishman with an Egyptian khopesh; MALCOLM, a voodoo priest with a sanctified machete; and TAKAIRA, a naginata-swinging Samurai.

Wasn't what I expected
Revisado: 10-21-14
If you could sum up Damoren in three words, what would they be?
Unique, action packed, a good listen.
What other book might you compare Damoren to and why?
I compared it a lot to Monster Hunter Inc. but it's a lot better than that.
What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?
He did a pretty solid job in the voice acting. Though his girl impersonation is a little poor, not bad though.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Kind of, I usually listen to it during my 8 hour shift.
Any additional comments?
I'm looking forward to the next book, the ending really got me intrigued about the origins of the weapons and all that fun stuff.

Historia
When he was 19, James Stark was considered to be one of the greatest natural magicians, a reputation that got him demon-snatched and sent downtown - to Hell - where he survived as a gladiator, a sideshow freak entertaining Satan's fallen angels. That was 11 years ago. Now, the hitman who goes only by Stark has escaped and is back in L.A. Armed with a fortune-telling coin, a black bone knife, and an infernal key, Stark is determined to destroy the magic circle.

Not bad!
Revisado: 08-30-14
Would you listen to Sandman Slim again? Why?
The main character is enough to keep me interested.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Sandman Slim, because he's the bad ass of the story and he pulls it off.
What three words best describe MacLeod Andrews’s voice?
Not fitting to Sandman Slim, I hate to say it. He does fine with everyone else, and even does special effects to talk as the monsters but when he's talking as Sandman Slim who reminds me of Marv instead Sandman Slim sounds like a really skinny teenager with an accent. This isn't bad though, it's something I can easily get over but that is the only part that really bothered me.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
None unfortunately.
Any additional comments?
I understand that this book is old, and I'm not sure when it was done but my only suggestion is to use a deeper cooler voice for Slim.
