Historia
An officer who served with Rutledge in the trenches of France before being sent back to England under suspicious circumstances has now been accused of savagely beating the husband of the woman he still loves. The suspect has taken the wife hostage, threatening to kill her and her maid unless Rutledge takes charge of the investigation. Although the case painfully mirrors Rutledge's own past and the love he lost to another man, he cannot refuse it.

Historia
It is 1872, and a series of gruesome murders is the talk of London. Mycroft Holmes - now 26 and a force to be reckoned with at the War Office - has no interest in the killings; however his brother Sherlock has developed a distasteful fascination for the macabre to the detriment of his studies, much to Mycroft's frustration. When a ship carrying cargo belonging to Mycroft's best friend Cyrus Douglas runs aground, Mycroft persuades Sherlock to serve as a tutor at the orphanage that Douglas runs as a charity, so that Douglas might travel to see what can be salvaged.

Happy surprise
Revisado: 02-11-21
I'm lukewarm about the original series,, finding it prissy and nattering,, but this due... major excellent. Much more interesting, much better understanding of the times, and vastly more interesting characters.. Really, I've got to call this a masterpiece.

Historia
DCI Craig Gillard will be pushed to his limits. But will he break? It seems like a routine disappearance, a case of musician’s stage fright. As a senior detective, Craig Gillard isn’t sure why he’s even involved. Until it turns out the woman’s father is the German minister of justice, and the British home secretary is on the case, too. But nothing about the case is simple. How does a woman on a train simply vanish? What do you do when a trail runs cold and the pressure is on? Before long the perpetrator has another target: DCI Gillard himself.

Very convoluted and very violent and warped. It was uspensef;ul enough that I kept reading (off and on) but it always left me feeling low and yucky.

Revisado: 01-03-21
Every episode is warm, wise, and beautiful and this one offers us new depth about the ladies' relationship and continues to illuminate friendship, tolerance, and forgiveness -- plus some engaging mysteries. As for Ms. Lecat, she's probably the best reader of all time.

Good plot, cutesy heroine

It presented some good mysteries and moved along well but the protagonist is "pert" and wise-aleckiy and I always find that a bit tiresome.

I tried and tried to hang with this, wanting to find out who dunnit, but it was way more porn than plot, and the porn was repulsive and repetitive. I gave up -- why spend time on something yucky?

A very ugly story
Revisado: 12-11-20
The narrator was pretty good, though not fabulous. The story was jam packed with violence and perversion, a wide variety of ways of abusing and killing people. I tried so hard to hang in but I just couldn't stand it anymore.

Disappointing, lightweight, rambling
Revisado: 09-23-20
The topic is fabulous but this desperately needed editing. It obviously was pushed out prematurely in order to take advantage of the timing. I would have liked to see more depth, and way less repetition.

I love this series and this author, and the narrator is skillful. but the sound engineering is unforgivably awful. Very furry, weak,, and uneven, and even at full volume I couldn't hear the story. So sad.

Historia
The City of Angels has more than its share of psychopaths, and no one recognizes that more acutely than the brilliant psychologist and police consultant Dr. Alex Delaware. Despite that, Constance Sykes, a sophisticated, successful physician, hardly seems like someone Alex needs to fear. Then, at the behest of the court, he becomes embroiled in a bizarre child custody dispute initiated by Connie against her sister and begins to realize that there is much about the siblings he has failed to comprehend.
