Just a great novel
Revisado: 05-17-25
See the actions of some beloved characters before the Siege, and that's just the B plot. The fall of the Death Guard is one of the better arcs of the traitor legions. This is just a great final stop before The End begins in earnest.

Historia
The time has come for Leman Russ, primarch of the Space Wolves, to fulfil his vow and attempt to stop Warmaster Horus before he breaks through to the Segmentum Solar. In the face of opposition from three of his brother primarchs, Russ withdraws the Space Wolves legion from Terra and makes all haste for Horus’ position. Reports from Malcador the Sigillite’s agents suggest that Horus is utterly changed and infused with a diabolical power so great that no man can stand against him.

Reading this one can feel kinda like a slog to get to the next one but listening to it takes it up to be another great HH novel.

Historia
From out of the shadows of the Silent War, a hero emerges. Clad all in grey, an errant warrior of the Legiones Astartes kneels before the Regent of Terra, and accepts a solemn new duty - Battle-Captain Garro, once commander of the Eisenstein, now Agentia Primus of Malcador the Sigillite. From the desolation of Isstvan to the halls of the Imperial Palace itself, he stands as a paragon of loyalty and protector of the innocent, ever ready to strike back at the traitorous allies of the Warmaster.

Historia
Of all the Legiones Astartes, the White Scars of Jaghatai Khan remain the most enigmatic and elusive. Born of a civilisation that prizes honour, speed and fearsome loyalty, their allegiance has yet remained unclear even as the galaxy is torn apart by Horus's treachery, and both sides have apparently counted them among their potential allies in the war to come.

Deserves the praise
Revisado: 01-23-25
A lot of people recommend the mini arc that is Scars into Path of Heaven, they are correct to do so. Came expecting White Scars and you get a fair amount more than that. Well worth the time and it makes the White Scars a very interesting Legion especially their enigmatic Khan.
HOWEVER! If you are reading this review and you are going through the HH books in order, STOP. The next book in the series is Vengeful Spirit, do NOT start Vengeful Spirit until you read/listen to Garro, Book 42 in the HH series. It is a collection of stories about Garro, he rules but more importantly it is where an important plot point for Vengeful Spirit is revealed.
The reason for this is because of annoying Games Workshop/ BL failings but that is explained better elsewhere. Just go from Scars to Garro then back to Vengeful Spirit, if you have read up to this point then there's nothing in Garro that will be out of a place. Thank you for your time.

The Shadow Crusade has begun. While the Ultramarines reel from Kor Phaeron's surprise attack on Calth, Lorgar and the rest of the Word Bearers strike deep into the realm of Ultramar. Their unlikely allies, Angron and the World Eaters, continue to ravage each new system they come across - upon the garrison planet of Armatura, this relentless savagery may finally prove to be their undoing. Worlds will burn, Legions will clash and a primarch will fall.

The Heresy at its BEST
Revisado: 01-12-25
I have seen some reading guides which mention you can skip this one.
Those people are Heretics of the highest and most foul order.
This book is straight heat from start to finish. For my money, this is ADB's 98 mph fastball followed by a 88 mph splitter.
it's even got some Ultramarines for you guys who think vanilla ice cream is the best.

Everything I did not expect it to be
Revisado: 01-10-25
The prevailing idea across the fandom is that the 30k era Spacewolves are terrible. It is for this reason, and my familiarity with the story of Prospero, that I skipped this novel. I had just finished Betrayer and decided to come back for this one for the sake of being thorough and, I mean its Abnett like come on it has to be at least passable.
It was better than passable, it was fantastic. But not just the story, all of it. The narrative and point of view decisions, the writing and the narration. Most importantly though, the Wolves. The stubborn, prideful, hypocritical war dogs of the Master of Mankind, I loved them dude. They were cool, they were interesting, they were great. This brings the total number of Legions that I dislike even after consuming a novel devoted to them to: one (Sorry 1st Legion, maybe Angels of Caliban will fix that, fingers crossed)

Historia
Since the earliest days of the Great Crusade, Sanguinius - angelic primarch of the IXth Legion - was ever among the closest and most loyal of Horus' brothers. But the Blood Angels have long kept their true nature hidden from the rest of the Imperium, and when the Warmaster hints that the key to their salvation may lie in the ruins of a conquered world, the sons of Sanguinius race to claim it.

Ending up loving the Blood Boys
Revisado: 12-31-24
I'm glad I doubled back for this one. We were largely through most of the muck and about to start Siege of Terra. But then I was reading novel descriptions on the books I had skipped and saw that this novel was about the Blood Angels.
I'm, historically, not a huge fan of the Blood Angels but I would still recommend this one. Sanguinius is an upper tier Primarch and seeing the interplay between him and his sons is great.
Also, James Swallow gets kind of a bad rap for not being ADB or Abnett and I'm here to tell you that, at least this novel, is right there with the quality of those writers.

Historia
Unaware of the wider Heresy and following the Warmaster's increasingly cryptic orders, Roboute Guilliman returns to Ultramar to muster his Legion for war against the orks massing in the Veridian system. Without warning, their supposed allies in the Word Bearers Legion launch a devastating invasion of Calth, scattering the Ultramarines fleet and slaughtering all who stand in their way. This confirms the worst scenario Guilliman can imagine - Lorgar means to settle their bitter rivalry once and for all.

People were so divided on this one and I have no idea why. It's up there with Flight of the Eisenstein for me. This book ruled. Exactly what I needed after mucking through Fulfrim and DoA. It make you want to pivot to as much Alpha Legion content as possible.
