What a great story. Like others I was left wondering how Brian would fare had he not been rescued and had to survive the bitter, cold of a far north winter. This story answered all of the questions that were in my mind, and more. I learned a lot about survival in circumstances that at first glance seem impossible to conquer. One word describes this book simply “Outstanding”

Very Enlightening

I learned a lot about smallpox and how horrific it would be if this monster got loose in the world. I must admit, I had only a passing knowledge of this particular virus. I am a boomer and was vaccinated against smallpox as a child and learning that it would not necessarily protect me anymore was a true eye-opener! I expect a few sleepless nights.

While I have given 5 star reviews to other Bobby Akart books, this is the first in depth review I have offered. I am an original Chicagoan who transplanted to Ky and resided there for over 25 years. During that time, I was present for many, many “tremblers” as they were referred to by my friends and neighbors. IMHO They were far more than that. We lived in Western Ky, about 50 miles east of the Mississippi and Paducah.
Unfortunately, many of us think that the “Big” one will never happen to us and remain woefully unprepared for it.
Bobby’s story was as true an account as one would need to begin to understand that there are no men in white hats riding in to save us from ourselves.
While I have moved back to Chicago, everyone knows, if New Madrid goes; all hell is going to break loose. This book can help you prepare without overly preaching AT you about the subject.
As to the story, I think the characters were all well developed and found myself liking and rooting for them.
I read a couple of reviews complaining about the narrator, ignore them! She did an awesome job, despite having so many different characters to voice.
There is heartache to be sure, but in a disaster of this magnitude that is expected and would seem ingenuous if it was completely lacking.

As previously mentioned, this is my first full review of a Bobby Akart book however, it will not be my last!

I am moving on now to the Yellowstone series with great expectations.
