Historia

I learned a lot about Alaska and saw it with new eyes. I felt such hatred for some of the characters and compassion for others. Truly amazing story !

The story was so captivating and I learned about the important of the human soul during and after wartime experiences. Francis was lucky… not many vets had such a wealthy and endless support system as she did.

Detailed story that unfolds at just the right time
Revisado: 12-01-24
So many things made me wonder if a woman really could gave fine all that in The late 1700s. Life was tough. Martha some her mind, cursed, and was able to listen to and watch gruesome situations. The graphic details were shocking. At the same time the too perfect relationship with her husband and their corney exchanges would have been better left out or changed to be reflective of the way men were more likely to treat their wife then.

Revisado: 10-26-24
Readers might think this starts out slow and wonder when the action will begin, but once it starts to pull you in with all the different personalities, social and political topics of the period, and unanswered questions you know it’s going to be hard to put it down . Loved everything except the detailed recipes.

Loved how everything came together over the hours of listening. Some loose ends kept me guessing. Generally all characters were more intelligent and in touch with their feelings than expected in any society for this story to have felt real. I would have loved it more if it was less sappy.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Historia
Set in a Lower East Side tenement in the early days of the COVID-19 lockdowns, Fourteen Days is an irresistibly propulsive collaborative novel from the Authors Guild, with an unusual twist: each character in this diverse, eccentric cast of New York neighbors has been secretly written by a different, major literary voice—from Margaret Atwood and John Grisham to Tommy Orange and Celeste Ng.

I liked about 50% of the stories. Some were too verbose or utterly unbelievable even after hearing what happens in the end. The personalities were good but it felt unlikely so many intelligent people with such good storytelling skills would gather together at any one time. Narration was good!

A deep story about connected and disconnected souls across all boundaries
Revisado: 03-14-24
I liked the story and performance as it took me to places and times I was unfamiliar with. Historic events were brought to life in the huddle and bustle of a hospital for the destitute and all exhibiting an undying commitment to serve. The narrative was heavy. Lots of graphic descriptions of medical procedures, anatomy and body fluids and human interactions which might not be for everyone. It was a tear jerker at times and there were many times I didn’t agree with the protagonist’s decision but we are all just a different version of the same species after all.
