I can’t give this book enough stars or say enough good about it. If you’re the least bit interested in the Cold War, or the CIA, or women in the intelligence community, this is a great book. Martha Peterson Had an amazing career, first in the jungles of Laos then as a covert operator in Moscow. It reads like suspenseful spy novel, only it’s real. Ms Petersons courage, intelligence, and service to our country are a challenge to us all. Her story had me on the edge of my seat. You will be glad you bought you will love it. Thank you for your amazing courage.

This audio will become a go-to work for understanding the long-term effects of the war on terror. Thousands of families are fighting this battle, and Nate Self opens up his whole life - tragedies, successes, failures, and a struggle with suicidal thoughts - to share the facts.

Impactful and brutally honest
Revisado: 06-22-21
Nate Self tells his story and that of his men with transparency and historical perspective. I recommend this book on every level. He gives deep insight into what a soldier experiences in battle and civilian adjustments after war. I already know I’m going to listen a second time at least!

Historia
At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

Historia
Here is an explosive book that takes us, for the first time, deep inside a shadowy, fascinating, and surreal world of unscrupulous doctors, anything-goes team directors, and athletes so relentlessly driven to succeed that they would do anything—and take any risk, physical, mental, or moral—to gain the edge they needed to win. The Secret Race is a riveting, courageous act of witness from a man who is as determined to reveal the hard truth about his sport as he once was to win the Tour de France.

Tyler Hamilton is open and vulnerable in this tell everything book about his years with Lance Armstrong and his cycling career. He doesn’t spare himself in his accounting of the dark side of pro cycling. Highly recommend.

Historia
In the predawn hours of March 4, 2002, just below the 10,000-foot peak of a mountain in eastern Afghanistan, a fierce battle raged. Outnumbered by Al Qaeda fighters, Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman and a handful of SEALs struggled to take the summit in a desperate bid to find a lost teammate. Chapman, leading the charge, was gravely wounded in the initial assault. Believing he was dead, his SEAL leader ordered a retreat. Chapman regained consciousness, alone with the enemy closing in on three sides, beginning the most difficult and exceptional fight of his life.

Gripping.
Revisado: 10-04-20
The story told in Alone at Dawn is awe inspiring, infuriating and highly enhanced my knowledge of this terrible piece of combat in Afghanistan. I will always remember John Chapman for his heroic actions that day, retold in such a spellbinding manner.

Mike Day has been on an amazing journey and if you read this book you will be a better person for it. He suffered, served, recovered, and forgave. Great example of the healing we can all have if we want it badly enough.

Historia
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., inherited his assassinated father's piercing blue eyes and Brahmin style, earning a reputation as the nation's foremost environmental activist and lawyer - the "toxic avenger" - battling corporate polluters. But in this, the most revelatory portrait ever of a Kennedy, Oppenheimer places Bobby Jr., leader of the third generation of America's royal family, under a journalistic microscope.

Historia
Every spring, Little Leaguers across the country mimic his stance and squabble over the right to wear his number, 2, the next number to be retired by the world’s most famous ball team. Derek Jeter is their hero. He walks in the footsteps of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle, and someday his shadow will loom just as large. Yet he has never been the best player in baseball. In fact, he hasn’t always been the best player on his team. But his intangible grace and Jordanesque ability to play big in the biggest of postseason moments make him the face of the modern Yankee dynasty, and of America’s game.

I want my money back for this horrible narration
Revisado: 08-01-19
Good story but the narrator is THE WORST I have ever heard, and I listen to tons of audio books. Obviously knows nothing about baseball. Repeatedly says “the team’s record was 52 to 36 instead of 52 AND 36. Mispronunciation of every important name almost. This guy obviously knows nothing whatsoever about baseball. Why couldn’t they have stopped the recording and corrected him? Unacceptable.

Study three easy fundamentals and make them a habit, and you have a recipe for sustained success no matter what hurdles life throws at you. This is a story of a small boy, scared and alone in the world, who ran away from home at 16, overcame numerous hostile environments to pursue his dream to become a Navy SEAL, and eventually became the naval special warfare sniper course manager (head) instructor. The lessons learned along the way were powerful.
