Not Your Typical Female Protagonist
Revisado: 01-04-24
This book was amazing. The story - the plot - the themes of status and power and manipulation of the human psyche - (soft spoiler alert) even down to the author’s own ability to manipulate the truth.
Maya doesn’t need her hand held. She’s smart. She’s analytical. She utilizes the set of tools and skills she has. She doesn’t cry and despair at the difficulties she’s facing - she pushes through. I loved this character.
Narration was superb.
I haven’t cried at the ending of a book in a very long time and this one got me. Get this one. You won’t regret it.

Great storytelling. Really good story. Easy listen. I was invested and bunged all the episodes over like four days. Really hope there’s a season 3!

Oh i loved this book. I will say the ending did slightly let me down in terms of a confusing element but i was weeping during the final paragraphs. Narration was great. All in all, a solid purchase.

Saw the “twist” 100000 miles away
Revisado: 01-19-21
It could be that i have read and/or listened to enough thriller/mystery/suspense books to fill a library but i saw the twist coming from the moment it was set up. I persevered however, thinking how could this be it? How could something so painfully obvious be the twist?? So i listened until the very end and the fact i was correct, was a huge let down.
However as far as the concept for the story goes it wasn’t bad. Perhaps it seemed exaggerated but i do not live in high society so maybe some of the details weren’t that far fetched. I enjoyed not knowing the major “what happened” exactly, but I wasn’t necessarily displeased with it. Basically this is an ok book.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Brilliant!
Revisado: 07-07-20
This was a fantastic debut! Part ethereal, part psychological, part suspense. I couldn’t stop listening regardless of the way it made me double check my locks (or quadruple that is). The story was full, the characters well developed and the plot did not seem far fetched even with the hint of something paranormal on the edges of the story. I felt for the main character and his son. My heart ached for them. I was fully wrapped up in this story.
I saw a couple mention that Eccleston was not an affective narrator but I couldn’t disagree more. He voice held my attention and his choices on performance were, i felt, just right.
Can not wait for this authors next book!

Historia
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

Predictable...slow build.. limited pay off
Revisado: 10-29-18
I just don’t get these rave reviews. I mean. I know I’ve read tons of these domestic thrillers but this story was very predictable... the “twists” aren’t too twisty if you pay attention. Which i won’t lie, that part was difficult. I wanted to scream at the female lead and how repetitive she was... i read another review saying it stopped around chapter 20 so i battled on.
Spoiler alert...
I just didn’t think the ending was realistic. If Simon was painted as this evil, psychopath, sociopath or whatever the ending wouldn’t have been him taking the blame for his child... ppl like that don’t identify with these needs... they are strictly unemotional and unattached.
The only thing that saved this for me was the excellent narration. Loved this performer.

Historia
After the death of her adoptive mother, Ava Saunders comes upon a peculiar photograph, sealed and hidden away in a crawl space. The photo shows a shuttered, ramshackle house on top of a steep hill. On the back, a puzzling inscription: Destiny calls us. Ava is certain that it's a clue to her elusive past. Twenty-three years ago, she'd been found wrapped in a yellow blanket in the narthex of the Holy Saviour Catholic Church - and rescued - or so she'd been told. Her mother claimed there was no more to the story.

Is there gonna be a sequel?
Revisado: 08-28-18
It was pretty good. Better than what i normally find. The story was good but idk.. i hate that you never get the truth behind the main protagonist.. not really. Which i guess is the sign of good writing. You can’t trust what’s being said just because it’s being said... i just hope there’s a sequel.
