Captivating story and performance
Revisado: 07-20-24
This exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed the twists and turns. I don't usually like it when a story jumps back and forth in time narrative, but this was seamless and not confusing. Very well done.

Historia
It's never too late to chase your dreams: Before she discovered running, Nita Sweeney was 49-years-old, chronically depressed, occasionally manic, and unable to jog for more than 60 seconds at a time. Using exercise, Nita discovered an inner strength she didn't know she possessed, and with the help of her canine companion, she found herself on the way to completing her first marathon. In her memoir, Sweeney shares how she overcame emotional and physical challenges to finish the race and come back from the brink.

Nice story
Revisado: 07-08-23
There aren't many stories about depression that feel relatable. This one does. The inability to get off the couch, attending support groups, the ups and downs. The narrator had a slightly nasal voice that bugged me the entire time, but I got through it.

Historia
Raina Bretton is a rag woman in London's East End when a handsome stranger appears in a dank alley and offers her a glittering smile and a chance for adventure. Rothburne Abbey has a unique position for her, one that will take her away from her hardscrabble life and give her a chance to be a lady. Things she could only dream of might be coming true. But some dreams turn out to be nightmares. Though Raina has traded squalor for silk and satin, something about the abbey is deeply unsettling.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

not relaxing

not relaxing at all. not unpleasant though, but not relaxing either. a more constant melody vs stop and star would be more soothing.

This is a live presentation, not an audiobook.
Revisado: 03-20-16
This is a short live presentation, NOT an audiobook as marketed. I'm assuming the book has more information not contained in this presentation. I expect an audiobook to be a reading of the book, not a shortened version of the highlights of the book. I'm disappointed.
