Too much graphic sex and crude language.

It’s a good story, but the constant F word that didn’t add to the story. I’m fine with swearing if the story needs it. But it didn’t need that much.
Some sex is fine, it makes you hate some characters but then it just got to be too much. It wasn’t romantic or fun even with the good guys. It just felt disgusting and dirty. Sex is great! I love a good sexy book, but this one is dirty, makes you feel like yuck.
My hope is this review helps those know what to expect. I’m sure there are a lot of people who love it dirty. I just wasn’t ready for it.

Such a great murder mystery

I’m not a gamer so the audio updates of all the stats was tedious.

It was sort of good, not great but not a waste of time. It’s not my cup of tea, but I kept listening 🤷‍♀️

Pretty good, not captivating

I enjoyed it, I finally felt like I was starting to get into it. It wasn’t captivating but it was enjoyable.
Why? Somehow it felt a little slow, I didn’t feel connected to the characters. I couldn’t really picture who they were, it was like I was blind to the characters. I knew what they were doing but not the emotion behind it.

It’s definitely an action movie in a book.
My only complaint is the narrator didn’t have distinctive voices for characters. His voice was beautiful and perfect for some characters but lacked the ability to make it sound different enough for all the different characters.

A good listen

About midway through I got into it enough I looked forward to being able to listen. The world Shusterman creates is almost believable. I don’t believe the human spirit will be content in the world he creates. But I can play imagine. All the different moving parts added a lot to the story, and I appreciate the thoughtfulness put into it. I look forward to the next book in the series. I admit to liking his unwind series more, but it’s a close 2nd.

Good but not for everyone

I took some great nuggets from this book. But it is written by someone who has never been audited, or who is able to just go out and replace something. I gave it 4 stars because it is a good read, I think her method and order is excellent. But I just disagree with throwing away so much.

Wonderful story, excellent narrator, too much swearing.

Swears way too much. Minimal sex. Without the swearing it’s an acceptable book to listen to while my older kids are around. This story is excellent, there’s plenty of action and connection with the characters. I can’t wait for the second book :-)

A preacher giving his parenting advice

There is good advice, and it is applicable to all children, not just boys. I think the author called it raising men, because he has only raised boys, but nothing really specific to raising men. OK parenting book.

Interesting documentary, excellent descriptions!

It kind of jumped all over. But this Author is obviously a good story teller. The descriptions he gave helped you to really understand, they were real life understandable descriptions. Shaking hands with hot dogs. In a relaxed Jack Black way, and so many more I can’t think of off the top. Worth a listen to, but not riveting. You don’t really get to know any characters. It’s not personal it’s a documentary.
