Historia
Originally published anonymously, The Federalist Papers first appeared in 1787 as a series of letters to New York newspapers exhorting voters to ratify the proposed Constitution of the United States. Still hotly debated and open to often controversial interpretations, the arguments first presented here by three of America's greatest patriots and political theorists were created during a critical moment in our nation's history.

I like the sound quality of this production. Of course the text itself is public domain, so no need to review the content itself. Just the spoken word.

Historia
The Middle East has long been a region of rival religions, ideologies, nationalisms, and ambitions. All of these conflicts are rooted in the region's political inheritance: the arrangements, unities, and divisions imposed by the Allies after the First World War. Author David Fromkin reveals how and why the Allies drew lines on an empty map that remade the geography and politics of the Middle East. Focusing on the formative years of 1914 to 1922, when all seemed possible, he delivers in this sweeping and magisterial book the definitive account of this defining time.

Historia
Like millions of women, Eve Ensler has been waiting much of her lifetime for an apology. Sexually and physically abused by her father, Eve has struggled her whole life from this betrayal, longing for an honest reckoning from a man who is long dead. After years of work as an anti-violence activist, she decided she would wait no longer; an apology could be imagined, by her, for her, to her.

A man apologizes for rape
Revisado: 02-29-24
I think Eve Ensler brings us into uncharted territory, the idea of a man apologizing (sincerely) for his rape. She encourages us to imagine what an apology from such a man would sound like.

Historia
Since the terrorist attacks of September 11th, there has been an overwhelming demand for information about Islam, and recent events - the war in Iraq, terrorist attacks both failed and successful, debates throughout Europe over Islamic dress, and many others - have raised new questions in the minds of policymakers and the general public. This newly updated edition of What Everyone Needs to Know about Islam is the best single source for clearly presented, objective information about these new developments, and for answers to questions about the origin and traditions of Islam.

Destigmatizes Islam
Revisado: 01-17-24
Understanding Islam is essential to protect ourselves from the oppression of Islamophobia. I love the way Esposito lays out the facts of the Muslim faith. It's important for anyone living in the modern world to gain a basic understanding of the Muslim faith. More than a billion believers across the globe, countries, and cultures adhere to some form of Islam.

Historia
Born a generation apart and with very different ideas about love and family, Mariam and Laila are two women brought jarringly together by war, by loss, and by fate. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them, in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul, they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation.

Historia
An instant best seller, On Fire shows Klein at her most prophetic and philosophical, investigating the climate crisis not only as a profound political challenge but also as a spiritual and imaginative one. Delving into topics ranging from the clash between ecological time and our culture of “perpetual now,” to the soaring history of humans changing and evolving rapidly in the face of grave threats, to rising white supremacy and fortressed borders as a form of “climate barbarism,” this is a rousing call to action for a planet on the brink.

Whether taken as a book of faith or a cultural artifact, the New Testament is among the most significant writings the world has ever known, its web of meaning relied upon by virtually every major writer in the last 2,000 years. Yet the New Testament is not only one of Western civilization’s most believed books, but also one of its most widely disputed, often maligned, and least clearly understood, with a vast number of people unaware of how it was written and transmitted.

Chinese proper nouns poorly pronounced
Revisado: 09-18-23
No one can contest Mao's ruthless cruelty and quixotic policies. It's not that I would necessarily dismiss her description of him. Rather, her sources are difficult to locate, which has made it difficult for scholars to verify many of her claims about Mao. Their overall theme asks a fair question, "Are Mao's accomplishments worth the tens of millions of lives lost?" Which most would agree, no. Nonetheless, their sources, often from Soviet Communist sources among others, even when locatable are notorious for their fabrications and must be cross-referenced with other viable sources. Her passing those off as reliable without mentioning their shortcomings is typical of her work, such as another book by her I read, her biography of Cixi. Again, she references imperial records and declares those to be reliable when they're completely the opposite. Sources under imperial Chinese emperors are very often works of fiction just like Soviet Communist Sources both of which Chang sites in her books. This is one of her shortcomings in her writing style that she needs to address. It's fine to cite unreliable sources, especially when there's nothing else to describe key events, but she needs to give readers these disclaimers. No true scholar of history would accept these sources at face value.

Strong 20th-21st Century Coverage
Revisado: 07-12-23
Some people have stated that Baum is too pro-Mao and pro Communist regime. I think that's because those listeners have not listened to the entire lecture series. Baum does give some positive coverage of Mao and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the beginning of the CCP's rise, because he wants his audience to understand why so many people willfully supported this regime. As we continue in the lecture series, Baum does not hold back any punches against Mao and the CCP. I definitely feel a much deeper appreciation of Chinese politics and history after having listened to this series. L
