Outdated but still applicable
Revisado: 02-02-25
I will probably have to buy the 3rd edition of this book (this one is the version published in 2002 - the year I graduated from high school!) and while a lot has changed about social dynamics (to put it mildly) I do see how the topics discussed still play out.
I'm glad I listened to the audio book because I don't have a lot of time to sit and read books cover to cover, and now if I get my hands on a physical copy of the new version, I can easily find the sections I need at any given time.

Important to read
Revisado: 08-06-24
This isn't a fun book by any stretch of the imagination, but it's important. I think I'm going to have my siblings all read this too, even though it will hopefully be a long time before we need to put it to use. the steps lined out are very sensible and well-organized, in addition to being full of compassion.

Historia
One gorgeous autumn day, Harrison discovers that his wife—the sweet, funny, loving mother of their three daughters, a woman “who’s spent just about every Sunday of her life in a church”—is having an affair with a family friend. This revelation propels the hysterical, heartbreaking events in How to Stay Married, casting our narrator onto “the factory floor of hell,” where his wife was now in love with a man who “wears cargo shorts, on purpose.” What will he do? Kick her out?

A book that holds the details of your marriage

Honest, raw, funny, heartbreaking, inspiring.
Revisado: 04-30-24
If you're tired of only hearing the socially acceptable versions of what marriage is like and how people have managed to stay together, this is for you.
If you're very sensitive to mild profanity, it's not for you.
I laughed out loud a lot during this book, and wept a few times too. It's an equally ugly and beautiful look into a marriage, and the power of community support or the lack thereof.

Historia
Jamie Winship spent nearly thirty years living and working in conflict zones, and during that time he has learned an important truth: all human conflict originates from fear, and fear originates from a false view of God, ourselves, and others. Until we exchange what's false for what's real, we will never experience being fully alive, fully human, and fully free. Living Fearless is your invitation to listen closely to what God is trying to say to you about himself, about the person he created you to be—and also about all those other people he created and loves.

A welcome and needed perspective
Revisado: 05-09-23
This book was not only informative, but inspiring. I've been wrestling with how to find a balance between truth and love for the sake of someone who I love very dearly and is struggling with gender questions. I appreciate that this book addresses the many nuances and always points back to what's most important: connecting with the individual person in a way that shows God's love and makes them feel valued.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Possibly the most touching story I've ever read (or heard) It's funny at times without trying too hard, and JK Simmons is the perfect choice for narrator.
