Historia
Joe King Oliver’s beloved Grandma B has found a tumor, and at her age, treatment is high-risk. She’s lived life fully and without regrets, and now has only a single, dying wish: to see her long-lost son. King has been estranged from his father, Chief Odin Oliver, since he was a young boy. He swore to never speak to the man again when he was taken away in handcuffs. But now, Grandma B’s pure ask has opened King’s heart, and through his hunt, he gains a deeper understanding of his father as a complicated, righteous man—a man defined by women, a man protected by women, a man he wants to know.

A good who done it
Revisado: 02-06-25
This was a good thriller with good detective work. The narrator voice was inviting, which made you want to go a little bit deeper into the story. The book has a good storyline and it keeps your attention. As soon as you can you wanna come back to it until you finish

This is good reading. Very personal, powerful and real without getting mushy. Mosley’s “Easy” series is the best along with “Socrates”. These are must read series. WHY NO MOVIES? Only Devil in a Blue Dress.

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

I do love all the Robiceaux books and this pulls in history from previous reads. Loved it! It honed in the rich flavor of landscapes, personalities and crap that Dave and Clet seem to run into. Couldn’t put it down and listened to it twice. I haven’t read anything this good in a year, and I’ve been trying.

Flann O'Brien's most popular and surrealistic novel concerns an imaginary, hellish village police force and a local murder.
Weird, satirical, and very funny, its popularity has suddenly increased with the mention of the novel in the TV series Lost.

WTF
Revisado: 10-19-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
No one.
Has The Third Policeman turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim Norton?
No one.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Confusion .
Any additional comments?
I've read many many books from a wide variety and genres. This book has no rhyme or reason. No beginning or seemingly end that makes sense. It is awful. It's the worse I've ever come across. I cannot say whether I liked or disliked the story because the story never came about, the plot was not apparent, the dots did not connect. WTF! And how did it get published.

Best book. Best adventure!
Revisado: 04-24-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Good Lord Bird to be better than the print version?
I wouldn't know, but I liked the narrator for the audio edition.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Onion is the best character. Next best is Old John Brown. All in all I loved every character in the book.
What does Michael Boatman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Excitement of the journey. He opens up the comedy of the story. I was actually depressed when I started reading it, and I found myself laughing out loud at the stuff Onion and the Old Man got themselves into.
Who was the most memorable character of The Good Lord Bird and why?
John Brown, then Onion the unwilling transgender character.
Any additional comments?
Good story and funny, funny and funny!

Too Much!
Revisado: 03-13-10
It was too much world and too much time to travel to and from. I was waiting for some good detective work to come in to play, but it didn't happen. Sorry, a reader for sure, but don't look for consistancy here.

It was a mystery for sure, but who was Hammas?
Revisado: 03-13-10
I never understood who Hamas was, and if he was a double personality, how did he come about? The story was pretty good, but it had too many unnecessary twist.
