This was a fascinating and inspiring story. I highly recommend this book. While there were some glitchy moments in the narration, I didn’t mind because I loved Sara’s voice.

The worst narration I've ever heard

I would seriously consider pulling this audio book and re-doing it. I had to stop listening because I was too distracted by the author's stumbling on his words. I cannot believe he's a vocal coach.

As 'woke' as I thought I was, this book really helped me understand and confront the inherent racism that comes from living in a society that promotes white supremacy. I understand how, despite my best of intentions, my way of speaking, thinking, acting was tone deaf to the experience of those people of color around me who I consider close friends.
I feel that the material was presented in a firm, tough love, sometimes humorous way. There were moments when I had to face some uncomfortable aspects of my way of thinking.
I am grateful for this book because I cannot, and should not, expect my friends to 'teach' me how to be less racist. I will do my best and continue learning while acknowledging that in my experience as a white person I will never full understand the experience of a person of color.
