Historia
1883. Thaniel Steepleton returns home to his tiny London apartment to find a gold pocket watch on his pillow. Six months later, the mysterious timepiece saves his life, drawing him away from a blast that destroys Scotland Yard. At last, he goes in search of its maker, Keita Mori, a kind, lonely immigrant from Japan. Although Mori seems harmless, a chain of unexplainable events soon suggests he must be hiding something. When Grace Carrow, an Oxford physicist, unwittingly interferes, Thaniel is torn between opposing loyalties.

All these fantasy gays do is wear clothes, eat food, and lie (to themselves)
Revisado: 12-07-23
I really enjoy these books, the plot always hits and I’m never bored and I adore that the author never feels the need to tell me Vel is smart, it is SHOWN through his thought process and actions (cough cough looking at u unnamed TikTok famous dragon riding book main character👀)
There is… a continued theme of everyone’s outfits being described in intense detail, which on very few occasions has held plot/character significance. Same with the food…which they eat a lot… (im currently calorie counting which is evil and the food descriptions in these books are also evil) it doesn’t seem to have much purpose other than like… an insane amount of specific world building.
Or for the meal to be interrupted like people be KNOCKING on doors during meals next listen through I’m gonna tally (and there def will be a relisten at some point I’m sure)
Or one very specific plot point in this book (which is a good one !!)
A million plus points for james fouhey who always sounds amazing and minus one point for vikas adams, he puts his all into it, im just not the biggest fan of his performances BUT the tithenai chronicles are amazing enough that i still re listened to book one in prep for book two 🙌

Historia
'Ah for darkness...not the darkness of a house which coops up a man among furniture, but the darkness where he can be free!' Maurice Hall knows he must choose between living life in the shadows or denying himself a chance at love and fulfilment. Aware of his attraction to the same sex, in a time where it was considered unlawful and immoral to have homosexual desires, Maurice must decide whether to battle or submit to a prejudiced 20th-century English society.

My atoms are different now
Revisado: 12-02-23
Listen if u like the feeling of free falling with a fist around ur aching heart.
“Maurice did not know that they had thus spent it perfectly — he was too young to detect the triviality of contact for contact's sake. Though restrained by his friend, he would have surfeited passion. Later on, when his love took second strength, he realized how well Fate had served him. The one embrace in the darkness, the one long day in the light and the wind, were twin columns, each useless without the other. And all the agony of separation that he went through now, instead of destroying, was to fulfil.”

Historia
Like all Necromancers, Cassius Corbin grew up knowing one irrevocable truth: death comes for us all. It was a lesson he learned well when his mother was murdered by fellow witches. Six years later, he is back in the town of Winslow, Massachusetts, to attend Tennebrose University. But that's not the only reason. While he's home, he intends to track down a magical folio stolen from his family centuries ago. Once he finds it, he'll finally be everything the witches in Winslow fear and the Corbin name will be respected once again—as long as Graeme Hewitt stays out of his way.

Thoroughly enjoyed, but would classify this as a YA novel except for the explicit scenes. Very tropey and fun, just not “one for the history books”

Historia
In 1963, in a Siberian prison, former nuclear specialist Valery Kolkhanov has mastered what it takes to survive: the right connections to the guards for access to food and cigarettes, the right pair of warm boots, and the right attitude toward the small pleasures of life so he won’t go insane. But one day, all that changes: Valery’s university mentor steps in and sweeps him from the frozen camp to a mysterious unnamed city. It houses a set of nuclear reactors, and surrounding it is a forest so damaged it looks like the trees have rusted from within.

Revisado: 12-01-23
This has become a comfort listen for me, I miss shenkovs voice. Coming off the kingdoms, I didn’t realize it was historical fiction and the ending note had me reading Wikipedia articles until the early hours.
this book took my heart out and tenderized it with a KGB baton which hurt like hell but in the end made my heart softer.
i have now read all her work and I understand some people’s trepidation with pulleys character tropes, but I don't agree. shes got good character types and she types characters good, but take that with a grain of salt. I also love to read fanfiction and that’s usually the same two characters falling in love over and over again so 🤷
