Historia
With the end of the Cold War, the victory of liberal democracy was thought to be absolute. Observers declared the end of history, confident in a peaceful, globalized future. But we now know this to be premature. Authoritarianism first returned in Russia, as Putin developed a political system dedicated solely to the consolidation and exercise of power. In the last six years, it has creeped from east to west as nationalism inflames Europe, abetted by Russian propaganda and cyberwarfare.

Eerily accurate
Revisado: 10-02-22
as someone who spent one’s childhood in Central Europe of the 1980s on both sides of the iron fence, the boarder between western democracies and soviet dictatorship, I would like to express my gratitude to the author for documenting current events with an admirable level of objectivity and understanding. This book is a true account of history as it happens and it’s publication is an amazing achievement of civil society. Hope it shall be discussed in public schools along with Richard Stengel’s Information wars all over the world soon!

Historia
Machines Like Me occurs in an alternative 1980s London. Charlie, drifting through life and dodging full-time employment, is in love with Miranda, a bright student who lives with a terrible secret. When Charlie comes into money, he buys Adam, one of the first batch of synthetic humans. With Miranda’s assistance, he co-designs Adam’s personality. This near-perfect human is beautiful, strong and clever - a love triangle soon forms. These three beings will confront a profound moral dilemma.

Intelligent and beatiful
Revisado: 08-29-20
The novel Machines like us is a tale about human morals and the limitations of comprehension. Despite addressing social issues, it retains a personal touch. Thereby a hauntingly beautiful story enfolds in front of the reader’s eyes, which is somewhat reminiscent of Dostojevskij.
The author describes clashes of different perspectives without passing judgment and leaves it up to the reader to make up his or her opinions. This novel is a mirror of our times and can stand proudly among those of Huxley and Orwell. A truly amazing work of thought!
