Historia
She was the small-town southern beauty transformed into a Hollywood love goddess. He was the legendary crooner whose voice transfixed the world. They were Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra. Separately they were irresistible; together they were an explosive combination. Ava’s star is rising just as Frank’s career—and public image as a family man—is taking a hit. Gone are the days of the screaming bobbysoxers and chart-topping hits. Ava, however, finds herself gracing the front page of every tabloid in America. Jealousy and cheating abound.

Historia
Charles Dickens is not feeling the Christmas spirit. His newest book is an utter flop, the critics have turned against him, relatives near and far hound him for money. While his wife plans a lavish holiday party for their ever-expanding family and circle of friends, Dickens has visions of the poor house. But when his publishers try to blackmail him into writing a Christmas book to save them all from financial ruin, he refuses. And a serious bout of writer's block sets in.

Fantastic.
Revisado: 12-12-17
This book was a real joy. The narrator was terrific, the writing exquisite, and I thoroughly enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek, witty references to all of Dickens' works. Topped off with loads of Christmas cheer.

Historia
This powerful novel transports listeners to the breathtaking world of Out of Africa—1920s Kenya—and reveals the extraordinary adventures of Beryl Markham, a woman before her time. Brought to Kenya from England by pioneering parents dreaming of a new life on an African farm, Beryl is raised unconventionally, developing a fierce will and a love of all things wild.

Gorgeous, Riveting Story
Revisado: 12-17-16
Sumptuous, wild Africa comes fully to life in Paula McClain's hands. Her prose was heartbreakingly beautiful at times, and I found myself scribbling down lines and sighing in happiness. I knew nothing about Beryl Markham's riveting story, but her adventurous life captured me from beginning to end. What's more, I've been utterly seduced into visiting this beloved Kenya of hers! I will also search for a copy of West is the Night, to hear Beryl's love for her land in her own words. I enjoyed The Paris Wife, but this book marks McClain as a truly accomplished, gifted author.

What a Remake Should Be
Revisado: 10-18-16
Oh, there was so much to love about this book! The Jane Eyre analysis, wry humor, engaging characters, adventure, and a dash of romance--nevermind the gorgeous, gleaming prose. I adored it. I enjoyed the very talented narrator as well. Highly, highly recommended.

The narrator was incredible with the accents and intonation! I enjoyed the way action set off the romance, though I would have likes the heroine to be just a smidge stronger. Still enjoyed overall. Recommended.

I love a good time travel and this novel fit the bill perfectly with it's sense of adventure, romance, and, of course, historical setting. The narrator was fantastic. They really can make or break an audiobook for me, and she nailed it. I'd listen to her perform any book.
