Historia
Published in 1945, Cannery Row focuses on the acceptance of life as it is: both the exuberance of community and the loneliness of the individual. Drawing on his memories of the real inhabitants of Monterey, California, Steinbeck interweaves the stories of Doc, Henri, Mack and his boys, and the other characters in this world where only the fittest survive, to create a novel that is at once one of his most humorous and most poignant works.

Again - Steinbeck is profound
Revisado: 11-10-23
Jerry Farden makes the characters come alive. His voice, intonation and impersonations are so incredible. This is actually my second listen, and it’s just as enjoyable as the first. The Cannery Row community he creates sounds so amazing I want to go there and join the party for Doc and hang out with Mack and the boys. I got so many gut busting laughs out of this. This kinda story really takes the edge off of life’s harshness and stress and reminds me of all that is enjoyable and to be valued.

Such depth into human existence
Revisado: 11-08-23
Many times I have burst out laughing at the incredible lines and descriptions of people. For example, the line…” he did not see people as individuals, but as antidotes for the poison of his loneliness” is so incredible! In my entire life. I could never summon such a line. Yet, there are dozens like it. I am very unread, but I don’t suspect I’ll ever encounter an author, quite like Steinbeck.

It’s not too late
Revisado: 10-22-22
Although I had a generally good upbringing and was taught to respect people, I was never really taught anything specific about how best to deal with people or how to deal with professional relationships. After being in my industry for 25 years I just recently had a mentor who taught me the importance of relating to people and valuing people. I wish I had this knowledge sooner and that I had read this book 20 years ago but it’s not too late to make a positive change. This old dog is learning new tricks. My personal and professional development has increased incredibly since I turned 40. I’ve pondered this and even asked God why I had to spend so many years to get to this point but His ways are perfect and past finding out. So I encourage everyone to read this and be a perpetual student. Positive change in how we live and treat people can always happen at any time. If we treat like as we are, made in the image of God, then we will respect and honor them and want to encourage them as much as possible with patience, mercy and grace.

Historia
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."

Incredible narration
Revisado: 09-05-22
Tim Robbins really brings life to the characters in an incredible way. We are tearing down statues of past leaders…how far is that from banning books? Or controlling the narrative by rewriting history? What a sobering reminder of the perils of censorship and war on free speech. Ray’s writing is tremendous, uniquely descriptive and very entertaining.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Exceptional! A must read!
Revisado: 05-03-22
I suspect the application of the info contained in this book will dramatically improve my life in myriad ways. It is incredibly insightful and informative yet very engaging and entertaining. It is also very convicting for I have purposeful been living sleep deprived for far too many years. If I ever see Mathew I will give him a huge bear hug because what all his hard work and study distilled into this book has done for me is akin to giving sight to the blind. A Very powerful and meaningful influence.
