I really enjoyed this series. Karen's characters are always people I'd like to know and be friends with. By the end of the series, I do feel like I know them. Trusting that if we have faith and pray for God's will, he will make it happen, even if angels are needed to bring about miracles along the way. It reminded me to try to be more aware of the times in my life where the odds weren't great, but things turned out right anyway, and to see the series of blessings along the way. Thanks for another inspiring series, Karen!

I've so enjoyed reading about the Baxters and I feel like I know them as real people! It was great to finally learn the details of John & Elizabeth's beginning and how God was at the center of the story even when they didn't know it. I also enjoyed learning more about Cody and Andie's relationship. Great listen!

I have loved all of the stories in the Baxters series, so I knew I would like this one. It is not centered on the Baxter family for this series, but they are peripheral characters in Bailey's story. The final book in Bailey's story, this one focuses on the journey to her discovery of what true love looks like, and the culminating wedding. It got a bit sugary sweet at times, but the times of prayer and listening to the leading of God and the Holy Spirit were touching and inspirational. Life is hard and Bailey discovers that not all decisions are completely clear. But when she asked God for guidance, sought counsel from her parents and Christian friends and trusted her heart, eventually the path became clear. The narration was good, and I experienced both laughter and tears while listening to this book. The whole Bailey series is good and I would recommend all 4 books.

Dick Van Dyke is such a national treasure and this book just reinforces why. He is genuine, funny, honest and joyful in the telling of his story and what he learned along the way. He wrote this at age 89, but I listened to it as he is just about to turn 96, and I'm happy to know he is still going strong. His thoughts and ideas about aging are honest and wise and also encouraging no matter where the listener might be on their journey. He's had an amazing life but never lost his wonder, humility and gratitude, and that comes across loud and clear. Great book!

I was excited to continue the Baxter's saga with this series, even though it centers on other characters. But this book didn't really end, it just stopped. Normally Ms. Kingsbury's books are written so that you can read one alone without needing to read the entire series. There is enough detail included to explain the characters and motivations, and each book ends fairly neatly. This one left several details and characters hanging so the reader feels the need to read the next book to actually "finish" the story. I do plan to read the next one, but this just seemed different than her usual style.

I am really enjoying this series by Karen Kingsbury. I have loved listening to the first 11 books and look forward to all the next ones I've downloaded. I mostly listen during my morning exercise walks and these make the time go really fast and not seem so grueling. I get so wrapped up in the characters and stories it is hard to turn it off when the walk is over. The Baxters have struggles like everyone else but they rely on God and their faith to get them thru the hard times and are grateful for the blessings that come when their prayers are answered. Ms. Kingsbury writes each character so well I almost feel like I know these people! If you like good wholesome stories about family and friends and faith, you will enjoy all the books about the Baxter family.

I listened to this book during a road trip from S. Carolina to Oklahoma. I found it easy to listen to and understand, and the narrator was very clear and pleasant to listen to. As stated at the end of the book, it is amazing that the story of these women is not more widely known! They played an important part in our history and deserve to be recognized for their talents and accomplishments. Having now listened to this book, I'm even more interested in seeing the movie that was made based on the book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Chip and Joanna take turns with the read, so you get their different perspectives on what was happening in their lives, which is interesting and entertaining. You can also tell how much they love what they do, and how much they love each other and their kids. I also appreciated that they listened to God's voice in making choices and decisions, and gave God credit for their success. They always seem like very approachable and down to earth people on their show, and this book just reinforces that impression. This was well worth the listen!

What did you love best about In Such Good Company?

The fact that Carol Burnett herself was the narrator! It made all the stories that much more real since she was the one who had lived them.

What did you like best about this story?

All the back-stage stories that most of us don't get to know about regarding the stars she worked with along the way, and some of the funnier moments that never make it on the air. But also about the personal relationships they all had together and the sense of family among the cast members.

What does Carol Burnett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You get to hear her own words in her own voice, so you know the emotions in those moments she describes are very real, whether it is laughter or tears or both.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several times when I literally laughed out loud at her descriptions of certain situations. The whole story of how they discovered and hired Vicki Lawrence was particularly interesting too, and I was glad they included excerpts from actual interviews with several of the people Carol worked with.

Any additional comments?

I love Carol Burnett, so I expected this to be entertaining, and I was not disappointed!

What did you love best about Being Mortal?

The honesty and sincerity of the author in acknowledging his own biases and lack of understanding the full enormity of this topic even though he is an experienced physician. He clearly learned things himself in the process of researching and writing this book, and I was impressed by his humility and willingness to admit that he himself and medicine in general does not have all the answers. I enjoyed hearing real stories about the patients he interviewed and the other professionals he observed and interviewed. Learning the history of "Assisted Living" centers was particularly enlightening too, and sad that most no longer demonstrate the attributes that this idea began with.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Being Mortal?

The author's details of tagging along with a Hospice case manager, and his realization that she asked completely different questions of the patient than he an other doctors usually ask regarding what is important to THEM and how they want to live out their final days. Medicine deals so much with clinical facts, but Hospice is all about the comfort and pleasure of the patient, and this was clearly a revelation to Dr. Gawande, and again, I was impressed at his admission of this, and his willingness to learn how to be better in talking with his own patients, and focus more on the situation from their perspective.

What about Robert Petkoff’s performance did you like?

He was easy to listen to and enunciated everything quite clearly. His voice had good inflection and I felt like he brought the author's own emotions into the words.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole thread about Dr. Gawande's father's story and the journey they went on together from his diagnosis through his passing. It was apparent how much Dr. Gawande had learned from researching this book, and he was able to apply those concepts and actions into the way he dealt with his father's illness, and their interactions together and as a family. Knowing we all face these situations kept the book, and the author "human" like the rest of us.

Any additional comments?

Everyone should read this book! I listened to it on a 12-hour drive to visit my aging dad, and move him from Assisted Living into Skilled Nursing, and I'm so glad I had some of these insights before I arrived, as it helped me view his situation, and the care he was receiving in a whole different light. And even if you don't currently have aging parents, grandparents or friends, we all will be in this category ourselves someday, and this book helps you look at how we currently view and treat our elderly, and think about what we want that to look like when we get to that stage in our own lives.
