The cherry on top
Revisado: 01-22-23
I received this audio book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
What a great ending to this series. The story was well executed and the characters showed growth throughout the series. John A Heldt has done an excellent job of tying up all of the storylines for the Carson family and friends.
As is the case with all of his stories, Heldt leaves the reader completely satisfied with his grasp of romance, historical fiction, and time travel. He even has a clever way of adding a bit of “breaking the fourth wall” in at the end.
This novel had a new narrator, thank goodness. Even though he didn’t employ all of the appropriate accents, it’s otherwise a job well done.
I highly recommend this series.

Perfect end to the series
Revisado: 01-11-23
I received the audio version generously from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you!
This was an excellent end to the American Journey series. Not only was the story of Hannah and her family unique and heart tugging, it was also a well written tie up for all five of the novels.
The setting brings us back to WWII and Heldt does a great job of not repeating events. He instead gives us a look into both sides of life - active and homefront - with realism and emotion.
The narrator was the same woman who performed a few of the other novels in the series. She’s not awesome, however it seems she has gotten better with this last novel, thank goodness.
Overall, I really enjoy his stories and again assert that if romance, family, historical fiction, and time travel are interesting to you, then Heldt's novels should be at the top of your list.

Short perfection for the season
Revisado: 12-04-22
This was a free download from Amazon.
Though the story was short, it was well written.
A condensed holiday second chance romance and perfect for the season.
Both narrators did an excellent job presenting their characters with humor and thoughtfulness.
Well done.

Enjoyable episode
Revisado: 11-18-22
I received an audio code from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
Class of ‘59 was not my most favorite novel in this series, though I can’t put my finger on exactly the reason why. The story was enjoyable, but maybe it’s because it was solely focused on young people.
The author followed his typical flow, which serves his writing well. This storyline does not seem to connect to any of the others, at least not so far in the ones I have read.
As for the narrator, she was mediocre. Her emotions were sometimes out of place, if they were present at all. She did employ an acceptable use of different North American accents.

These time travel romance stories continue to entertain. I enjoy them more and more with each story. And without giving too much away, because I really don’t like making reviews with spoilers, I will say this one left me with an overall feeling of “finally!“
As for the narrator, I truly wonder if he realizes how often he starts his sentences with the word “well.” I can’t imagine that it’s actually in the text of the novel as often as he says it. Putting that aside, his narration is well done.

Enjoying this series
Revisado: 10-23-22
I received the audio book code for this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
I am really enjoying this series. Even though it is still the time travel historical romances the author is known for, he seems to be shaking things up a little by having the characters mess with the timeline a bit more than in other series.
The characters are well developed and highly believable. As always, there are those moments that make you break out the tissues. The story is very entertaining and I recommend it for all who look for this genre.

The beginning of another great one
Revisado: 09-24-22
I received this book on audio from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
I really enjoy John Heldt’s time travel stories. September Sky is the beginning of another series that is already off to an interesting start.
It seems Heldt is taking more license with his characters as the do things to affect time line changes, which is fun.
The father and son duo is a unique spin when it comes to the family and relationships storylines. And the inclusion of a “Wizard of Oz” type character is a fun twist.
I would love to see a story map for all of the author’s series to better envision how and when these characters from each interact and overlap.
Chaz Allen is the narrator again and I am getting used to him and his mannerisms.
Looking forward to the next installment

Grab the tissues
Revisado: 09-11-22
I received this audio free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This series is really well written. Each installment of the Carson family’s adventures is compelling and interesting. The changes in time/eras keep the storylines fresh. All of the characters, recurring and new, are well developed and do their part to help the story along.
Without giving any spoilers, this one is heart wrenching at times. It definitely spurred some tears, so be ready.
As for the audio, it’s the same narrator as some of Heldt’s other novels. I don’t love her, but this one was less bothersome for some reason. The lack of character accents continues to be a stumbling block.

Exciting series
Revisado: 09-04-22
I received the audio version from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
This is the third in an exciting series by John A Heldt. The Carson clan continually finds themselves in hot spots and serious drama as they time travel through history. They spend their time making poor decisions in the name of true love and family. And the children of this family fall in love easily and often!
The novels are historical fiction, always incorporating important events of America’s past. But they are just as easily family dramas and romances. The author handles all of this very well. The story line is intriguing and keeps the reader’s interest throughout. This installment is a necessary and entertaining piece of the series.
Since this is audible, I will make a few comments about the narrator. The series seems to fluctuate between two, a male and female. This book has the female and she is acceptable with a few major flaws. She does not use accents when the novel clearly states a character has one, which is annoying since the male narrator does that well. Also, this female narrator sounds like she is on the verge of crying whether a character is happy, sad or indifferent. But as I stated previously, it is acceptable because the story is so well written.

I received this audio book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This series really keeps the listener/reader engaged and interested. The characters are well developed and the details create clear pictures in the mind. Once again, the author taps the heartstrings with the recounting of tragic histories.
I don’t really like to make reviews with spoilers, so I will just recommend this to people interested in historical fiction and those looking for a well developed and enjoyable story.
