Historia
On their first night in Paris, the Gamaches gather as a family for a bistro dinner with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. But an attempt on the elderly man’s life sends Armand, his wife, Reine-Marie, and his former second-in-command at the Sûreté, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, from the top of the Tour d’Eiffel, to the bowels of the Paris Archives, from luxury hotels to odd, coded works of art. It sends them deep into the secrets Armand’s godfather has kept for decades.

I did not like the story at all. I struggled to finish. Setting in Paris? Very little description of a magnificent city. I want to go back to Three Pines.

my favorite in the Series
Revisado: 03-12-24
I have listened to every book in this series. This one is my favorite. Great story, excellent character development, intense suspense and I even learned new things. The narrator is wondeful. I can't imagine anyone else narrating this series. I hate that I need to wait so long for the next installment.

I wanted to like this but the story just bored me to tears. Couldn't relate to the characters and cats were not magical to me. The narrator was very good though.

where are the characters
Revisado: 06-09-19
I look forward to reading the books in this series. But most of the characters that make the books so enjoyable were not in the story. Even the animals were not as prominent. Harry and Susann were there and no one else! I missed them. I also struggled through the hunting with the beagles and bassets. Way too much emphasis on that and not on the story. I enjoyed the secondary story from the 18th century and hope in future books it continues. I also hope Fair,BoomBoom,Little Mim and the others come back in the next book. I just did not care for the Beagle/Basset Hound hunting club characters at all.

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

Two thousand people go missing in Alaska every year. They vanish in the middle of mountain footraces, on fishing boats in the Bering Sea, on small planes in the Bush. Now a geologist known for going walkabout with his rock hammer has disappeared from the Suulutaq Mine in the Park. Was it deliberate? An accident? Foul play? Kate Shugak may be the only person who can find out. But for the fact that Kate, too, is among the missing....

I was thrilled to have Kate Shugask back in my reading/listening life again. This book was excellent. The naration was, also. No one in my opinion could render Kate and all the characters as well as Margarita Gavin does. The story was very interesting and it was a pleasure to listen to. I hope that Dana Stabenow has decided to keep writing the Kate Shugak books for a long time to come. There are many more stories to tell,I am sure.

Wished I had bought the print edition
Revisado: 07-12-17
What did you love best about The Weight of Night?
I really enjoyed the mystery and some of the characters. I could not stand Gretchen. The narrator for Gretchen was not terrible but not good either. I found Gretchen's over thinking her tragedy to be tedious and every time another of her chapters came up I wished I had the print edition to be able to skim through her melodramatic wonderings into her past. I felt her sleepwalking added absolutely nothing to the story. While i felt sorry for her plight,I got sick of her constant whining about it. Otherwise the characters were well developed and the story was engrossing.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
At times, until Gretchen started her depressive rants.
What three words best describe R. C. Bray and Sarah Mollo-Christensen ’s voice?
R.C. Bray: excellent, strong and perfect. Sarah Mollo-Christensen: depressing, non-expressive and tedious.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No
Any additional comments?
I really enjoy Christine Carbo's books and am glad I bought this one. The first two I listened to were much better.

Historia
An old hermit has been killed in Utah's wildlands, and Sheriff Bud Shumway knows it's murder, even though some say it was a cougar kill. Others think it was done by a Bigfoot who has roamed the area for years, killing cattle and leaving people so traumatized that they never want to go into the wilderness again. But Sheriff Shumway can't afford to believe in Bigfoot, given the huge area he's responsible for, most of it wildlands.
