Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Enjoyable and Contemplative
Revisado: 12-06-23
Like many others, I devoured the first half of the book, in what seemed like a few hours, and the second half of the book took me a month to finish.
I was all in on his childhood, the bands beginning, and the stories behind some of their more popular songs. But the portion regarding his activism left me kinda meh.
I reengaged in the latter portions, where his contemplative nature struck a tone with me. It was an enjoyable listen, and I was glad I purchased it.

Historia
The mutiny on HMS Bounty, in the South Pacific on 28 April 1789, is one of history's truly great stories - a tale of human drama, intrigue and adventure of the highest order - and in the hands of Peter FitzSimons it comes to life as never before. Commissioned by the Royal Navy to collect breadfruit plants from Tahiti and take them to the West Indies, the Bounty's crew found themselves in a tropical paradise. Five months later, they did not want to leave.

Good story and good narration. I feel the same as many of the other reviewers that had positive comments. Well done.

Historia
In 1963 Colin Fletcher became the first man to walk the length of Grand canyon, below the Rim. It began with a dream, when he and a friend detoured from a cross-country trip to take a hurried look at the great natural wonder. Standing on the Rim, surrounded by the profound and almost mystical silence, Fletcher knew that something had happened to the way he looked at things. He also knew that the Canyon, with its depths and distances, cliffs, buttes, and hanging terraces, beckoned to him, calling him on a journey that would challenge both his body and his mind.

Enjoyed, But Not Delighted
Revisado: 05-15-23
I enjoyed their book, but like some others I would have preferred a bit more discussion on what he saw as opposed to how he felt.
The narration left something to be desired.
As far as some of the comments about him being racist, I didn’t pick up on that. It seems to me, he was just describing what he saw. It’s unrealistic to expect a book written when this one was, to hold to today’s sentiments.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

Not His Best
Revisado: 05-06-23
Like many others have said, I owe Dan for his amazing podcast and bought this book despite some of the reviews. I owe Dan for all that I’ve learned from his podcast.
This is obviously a personal opinion, but I love the deep dive of his podcasts, the tangents, the why, why, why and this book didn’t have it. To fast and shallow for me. As others have said, if your not already a podcast listener you might like this book.

I really enjoyed this book
Revisado: 04-04-23
Curiosity will make you do some strange things. I didn’t know much about Truman and I found this book by David McCullough. I have enjoyed other books by Mr. McCullough, so I thought I would this one a try.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, although at some points it dragged on a little bit, but that’s just the author being thorough.
I’m glad I listened all the way to the end.

Historia
Millions of words have poured forth about man's trip to the moon, but until now few people have had a sense of the most engrossing side of the adventure: namely, what went on in the minds of the astronauts themselves - in space, on the moon, and even during certain odysseys on earth. It is this, the inner life of the astronauts, that Tom Wolfe describes with his almost uncanny empathetic powers that made The Right Stuff a classic.

Enjoyed the Book
Revisado: 12-02-22
This is the third book I almost didn’t purchase because of the negative reviews regarding the narration. All three were just fine and I’m glad is listened to them. While Quaid wasn’t perfect, I’ve yet to hear a perfect performance from anyone. I’ve come to the conclusion that some people just need to gripe.
If you have any interest in the subject matter, buy the book, you’ll enjoy it.
