Sound quality is horrible!!
Revisado: 01-16-20
I couldn't even get 5 minutes into this story. The sound quality is beyond poor, and the voice actors are crap also. Maybe if I hadn't heard them in every other audible original offered (Carmilla, etc.) it wouldn't bother me so much, but seriously get some other actors. Sadly I can't even exchange it since it was an audible original offered freebie. I'm pretty disappointed in this.

Historia
The police in Jersey County, Illinois, accepted Paula Sims' story of a masked kidnapper who snatched her baby girl, Lorelei, from her bassinet. Three years later, her second newborn daughter suffered an identical fate - and this time the police were unable to stop searching until they had discovered the whole horrifying truth. This is the full terrifying story of twisted sexuality and hate seething below the surface of a seemingly normal family and of the massive investigation and nerve-shattering trial that made the unthinkable a reality.

I kept coming back for more.
Revisado: 01-16-20
It was easy to binge this true crime account of the Sims' case. From the beginning I found myself in shock at the information presented to me, and that continued until the end. This case, this book....if I hadn't googled Paula Sims, and researched this case some for myself....I would have sworn it was all made up.
Well done to the authors, and to the narrator. I listened at 1.5 speed, spoke very clearly and did well with inflection.
*SPOILER* I don't believe for a second Robert didn't play a part in some way.

Historia
The story of poison is the story of power. For centuries, royal families have feared the gut-roiling, vomit-inducing agony of a little something added to their food or wine by an enemy. To avoid poison, they depended on tasters, unicorn horns, and antidotes tested on condemned prisoners. Servants licked the royal family's spoons, tried on their underpants, and tested their chamber pots. Ironically, royals terrified of poison were unknowingly poisoning themselves daily with their cosmetics, medications, and filthy living conditions.

Morbidly Excellent
Revisado: 01-12-20
This book is filled with great information, and doesn't ever get preachy or redundant. The narrator does an excellent job throughout. I'm very very pleased with this audio book purchase!!

Historia
From the Western collectors whose demand for shrunken heads spurred massacres to Second World War soldiers who sent the remains of the Japanese home to their girlfriends, from Madame Tussaud modeling the guillotined head of Robespierre to Damien Hirst photographing decapitated heads in city morgues, from grave-robbing phrenologists to skull-obsessed scientists, anthopologist Frances Larson here explores our macabre fixation with severed heads.

Interesting!!!
Revisado: 01-09-20
The info in this book was great, I spewed so many new found factoids to my hubby he said I was starting to creep him out haha. The end of the chapter on WWII, and leading into the 21st century war beheadings, in my opinion, got a little preachy/rambled. After that it jumped right back into some neat history.
The narrator did well also.

That ending though!?!
Revisado: 11-04-19
In the beginning I struggled to remain interested. While Ralph Lister is enjoyable to listen to, the voices of the Japanese Danyo's, and even Blackthorn at times, were difficult to differentiate between. Also felt like the story ended quite abruptly, maybe to lead into book 2?
The story itself though, is wonderful. Full of twists, betrayal, love, honor, and vengence. Definately worth a re-read!

Emotionally Charged
Revisado: 10-29-19
This was a quick listen, but so worth it, and the emotions it brought about!! This story will make you laugh, cry, maybe even a little shocked and enraged. Great narration, clear sound, all around a good true story.
