The long long life of Addie Larue

V.E. Schwab’s "The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue" promised an intriguing premise—a woman cursed to live forever but to be forgotten by everyone she meets. However, the execution left much to be desired. For a book that spanned centuries of Addie’s life, it dragged at a sluggish pace, with little suspense or plot twists to propel the narrative forward.

While some readers have raved about the romantic undertones and existential musings, I found it lacked the depth and excitement needed to sustain my interest. The story moved too slowly, and there wasn’t much to spark that flutter of anticipation or emotional connection. What could have been a tale full of heart-wrenching choices and dramatic encounters felt repetitive and stagnant. Even the relationship with Luc, the darkness personified, failed to provide enough tension or mystery to make the journey worthwhile.

Jodi Picoult’s glowing endorsement of this book surprised me. It didn’t live up to the hype and felt more like a drawn-out reflection on life than an immersive, memorable story. If you're looking for something thrilling or full of emotional resonance, this one may not be it.

I loved the story, but being a South African and am bilingual in English and Afrikaans found the mispronunciation of the Afrikaans words irritating.
The narrater could have researched this as names of towns which are English names were also mispronounced.
I suppose if I wasn’t a South African and from another country I wouldn’t have known any better.

I knew very little about transgender people before I read this book. I have been educated- the tip of the iceberg to understanding the tragedy of isolation, fear and loneliness of being LGBT. This story was written with such sensitivity and respect that it’s made me somewhat ashamed of my ignorance and naivety about being transgender.
The story is fiercely gentle, strongly soft and if by touching the heart of a random grandmother of 4 young children in a small town on the edge of Africa then all has been achieved in raising awareness and understanding.
I thought I was open minded and understood the T in LGBT, after all I did watch Pricilla Queen of the Desert! I will continue to up-skill and expand my knowledge and hopefully be able to reach out and help a Lily one day. Thank you Lorna

I have just discovered Jojo Moyes and this is my third book of hers. She writes beautifully and so far Me Before You is the best! The story line is about a girl who has been retrenched from the little village's café and takes a 6 month contract with a wealthy family to care for their 35 year old quadriplegic son. The story unfolds of two very different lives, upbringings, points of view and the eventual friendship.. which is not what you think it will be boy meets girl, girl hates boy, partings and falling in love.. This is no typical love story and I spent a fair amount of time swallowing the lump in my throat.

I love a feel good love story that also involves food.. I'm a sucker for the cook, eat, love, live type stories and this is one of those with all the ingredients for the perfect storyline. Broken marriage, broken heart, move to another town, a new fling, a new job, a new business built on little money, then a broken heart and a rekindling of a new love.. Ooh yes! Put on your swimsuit, grab a towel, sun cream, hat and a deck chair.. Holiday listening couldn't get better than this.

A good story of a marriage that has gone wrong and how there's simplicity in fixing it if only we could forget the past.... Which Alice did! A story of a normal life, the climb up the corporate ladder and how material things get in the way of love and life. A lovely read!

A good enjoyable series! Sometimes a little complicated with names and references and I wished I could rewind and pick up what I had missed or forgotten. but overall a good mystery detective series.

I waited with baited breathe for the new book and as usual was not disappointed..
I just love this series and historically the facts are as true as they can get given that it is fiction. I love the accents and the narrator is fabulous. But start the series at the beginning so that you can follow the story line properly because Diana does not spend any time recapping in the first chapter. She picks up the flow and runs..
I love this series... I can't wait for another one!

I have never read a Jojo Moyes book before, I'm not sure why, but I suppose I haven't stumbled across one.. But now I have.. I will read more of her books. This was one of the most delightful books that I have read in a long time.
The fact that the narration was done from 4 different character's perspectives and drew the story into real life. The narrators were believable, not forced and honestly good.
I loved Jess, Ed, Nicky and Tansy.. They were all delightfully real, with their own flaws that related a story of tanacity, never gicing up and looking at the positive.
And of course there was Norman, I'm a complete sucker for a dog in a story.. And this is a DOG.. a big, black, hairy, floppy, drooling, disobedieent dog.
have a listen.. you wont waste yor money... ENJOY!!

I didn't finish this book, even though I tried a dozen times. The narrator is far too old to be depicting a young woman who is going through a divorce. Her voice is gravely like she has smoked 40 fags a day for 40 years.. I just couldn't get into this very boring book!
