But when resident and well-loved spinster Miss Simpson takes a stroll in the nearby woods, she stumbles across something she was never meant to see, and there's only one way to keep her quiet. Miss Simpson's death is not suspicious, say the villagers. But Miss Lucy Bellringer refuses to rest: her friend has been murdered. She is sure of it.

I love the tv series from England. Decided to listen to the actual books that triggered the series. The characters are more deeply illustrated.

Historia
An unexpected death on a lonely road outside of Utah’s Bears Ears National Park raises questions for Navajo Tribal Police officers Jim Chee and Bernadette Manuelito. Why would a seasoned outdoorsman and well-known paleontologist freeze to death within walking distance of his car? A second death brings more turmoil. Who is the unidentified man killed during a home invasion where nothing seems to have been taken? Why was he murdered? An illicit business, a fossilized jaw bone, hints of witchcraft, and a mysterious disappearance during a blizzard add to the peril.

Years ago, Bernie and Maya were roommates, but time and Maya’s struggles with addiction drove them apart. Now Maya’s brother asks Bernie to find out what happened to his sister. Historia
The 1968 US presidential election was the young Lawrence O'Donnell's political awakening, and in the decades since it has remained one of his abiding fascinations. For years he has deployed one of America's shrewdest political minds to understanding its dynamics, not just because it is fascinating in itself but because in it is contained the essence of what makes America different and how we got to where we are now.

I got this on a whim. I love history so thought it might be interesting. This is exceptional. Excellent narrative and ultimately explains the present in what Americans call the Middle East. I have recommended it to friends who were raised Muslim.

Historia
Forensic anthropologist Bill Brockton has spent 25 years solving brutal murders - but none so horrific and merciless as his latest case: A ravaged set of skeletal remains is found scattered in the woods of nearby Cook County. They are all that is left of a victim who had been chained, hand and foot, to a tree on a remote mountainside. The bones tell Brockton and his longtime graduate assistant, Miranda, that the victim was a young male under the age of thirty. As they dig deeper to establish his identity, they uncover warning signs that long-simmering hatred is about to explode.

I love novels about areas of forensic science. As this novel and all of the Bill Brockton novels are written by an actual forensic anthropologist the knowledge gained is true. Well written, great characters and captive story. Keep writing guys.

Historia
Being on the murder squad is nothing like Detective Antoinette Conway dreamed it would be. Her partner, Stephen Moran, is the only person who seems glad she's there. The rest of her working life is a stream of thankless cases, vicious pranks, and harassment. Antoinette is savagely tough, but she's getting close to the breaking point. Their new case looks like yet another by-the-numbers lovers' quarrel gone bad. Aislinn Murray is blond, pretty, groomed to a shine, and dead in her catalogue-perfect living room, next to a table set for a romantic dinner.

Revisado: 12-15-16
I have read or listened to many of Maron's Deborah Knott mysteries. I tend to not like legal thrillers. Her mysteries are a brilliant exception. The most realistic presentation of lawyers and courtrooms in fiction and as a lawyer, I know. Enjoy

This is another fine mystery. Maron gives you just enough hints that the reader can figure out the killer at the same time Judge Knott does. I really like the realistic courtroom scenes. Appreciate that it more realistic than Perry Mason or any other tv legal drama. I love mysteries and for the last year Maron has been my favorite.
