A Brilliant Conclusion
Revisado: 04-05-25
After going through the other two volumes of this work, the third volume gives some measure of hope, albeit undergirded by a still dark shadow of what had been in the Soviet Union. It was an interesting journey. Solzhenitsyn tells many tales in these three volumes, and gives us much to think about in our history of the past and our looking towards the future.

Hard but Brilliant
Revisado: 04-01-25
After listening to the first volume, the continuation still hits hard. It is not a journey I would recommend to anyone. But for those who can handle it, we must never forget the brutality of history, even if Mr. Solzhenitsyn is not entirely and completely historically accurate. Case's delivery is good as always, but it is hard to express such history.

Well Written

Well written cast of characters, well built out world, and some very good themes that you get from a lot of zombie apocalyptic fiction. Gave me a lot to think about on the tail end.

The Confessions of St. Augustine is one of the most moving diaries ever recorded of a man's journey to the fountain of God's grace. Writing as a sinner, not a saint, Augustine shares his innermost thoughts and conversion experiences, and wrestles with the spiritual questions that have stirred the hearts of the thoughtful since time began.

Early Christian Brilliance
Revisado: 03-09-25
A true masterpiece of early Christian philosophy. It is a very heavy piece, but to confront it and attempt to understand it is well worth the journey - the journey that you are taking with Saint Augustine as he takes you through his life, through his eyes.

The Sonnets

Historia
The 154 sonnets of William Shakespeare contain some of the best-known, most-quoted lines in the English language. This collection brings dozens of those immortal poems to vivid life. Included here are: Numbers 18 ("Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"), 130 ("My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun"), 147 ("My love is as a fever"), 151 ("Love is too young to know what conscience is"), and many more. Almost everything about the sonnets is controversial: the identity of the recipients, the young man and the Dark Lady, the dates the sonnets were written - and some even question if they were indeed written by the Bard. But their beauty and eloquence are beyond reproach.

I enjoyed the little comments on the sonnets, but the recording felt a little old. It was a good review of some of the sonnets I went through in secondary school.
