Have you listened to any of Grace Conlin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

For six months, the world's major leaders - including Woodrow Wilson, president of the United States, David Lloyd George, prime minister of Great Britain, and Georges Clemenceau, prime minister of France - met to discuss the peace settlements which were to end World War One.

the peace that continues to fuel our problems
Revisado: 10-05-13
The format is excellent with the author reading the lectures, the author's voice gives extra intonation and feeling. The questions at the end of every lecture were rather jarring and did not seem genuine. The recording opened my eyes to the ill conceived and ingrained thought that this was just a peace with Germany.
The defining of many new countries, altering borders and ethnic make up without the opinions of the inhabitants, in many cases, produced a festering cancer for which we are paying the price today.
The problems in the Middle East are mainly based on these neatly ruled lines for boundaries. I had never thought or realised that when it was time for Germany to sign the treaty, the Allied Powers most likely did not have the power or will to invade Germany.
The ongoing neurosis of France of being attacked is cleverly expanded and lays the foundation for the formation of the European Union to overcome this..
Would the SecondWar have been prevented if the U.S.A had ratified the treaty and guaranteed the peace by force?
I now understand the subject so much better this lecture series should be made compulsory content for all political based education.

In April 1940, the ninth Duke of Rutland died in mysterious circumstances in one of the rooms of his family estate, Belvoir Castle. The mystery surrounding these rooms holds the key to a tragic story that is played out on the brutal battlefields of the Western Front and in the exclusive salons of Mayfair and Belgravia in the dying years of la belle époque. Uncovered is a dark and disturbing period in the history of the Rutland family, and one which they were determined to keep hidden for over 60 years. Sixty years on, The Secret Rooms is the true story of family secrets and one man’s determination to keep the past hidden at any cost.

Too long and detailed to be entertaining.
Revisado: 04-28-13
This is well researched book ,more like a PhD thesis than a story. It refects well the era of the First World War and the power of the nobility.
The detail like the names and size of each picture in inches listed in sales catalogue sold to raise money for the estate is truly boring and annoying.,the same can be said of other lists.

Historia
Shimon Peres was in his early 20s when he first met David Ben-Gurion. Although the state that Ben-Gurion would lead through war and peace had not yet declared its precarious independence, the "Old Man", as he was called even then, was already a mythic figure. Peres, who came of age in the cabinets of Ben-Gurion, is uniquely placed to evoke this figure of stirring contradictions - a prophetic visionary and a canny pragmatist who early grasped the necessity of compromise for national survival.

The perfect biography in content and format
Revisado: 04-16-13
Thisis a great book of a great man the founder of Israel The fact that the author was with Ben-Gurion as a friend and colleague for many decades gives a continuity rarely seen in biographies. This is not seconhand accounts.
The format that David Landau questions the author often aggressively gives a sense of being there myself and asks the questions I would have liked to ask.
The questions regarding the lack of action, albeit even vocal, regarding the annihilation of the Jews in Europe by Ben Gurion, the de facto leader, had to be and was asked David Landau. The hesitant and weak reply by the author is a unique moment in this book,so much more because you can pick up the vibes of truth,,political expedience ,a touch of embarrasement and sadness..This only an audible book can do well read..
A true biography of a great man by a great author as well as politician,The "questioner concept" should be included in more audible books

a unique book , story of a great man of our time
Revisado: 03-31-13
What did you love best about Long Walk to Freedom?
It is a true story, that after nearly three decades of imprisonment, abuse, and, mental torture ,a person can forgive, go forward and the country follow the lead. The answer to hatred is forgivness. It saved South Africa from civil war,an example to other states
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It is much more than a book.It transmit an attitude of forgivness. As a frequent visitor to South Africaiit deals in part with living history, peoples names in the book are often place names now
Any additional comments?
This book should be part of reading lists at schools to further understanding of different cultures and demonstates the overcoming of revenge and hatred is the way out of what can be a vicious cycle of cuture violence. It stimulates thought that had Gandhi lived the Indian continent might have been different now

Historia
An instant best seller that is poised to become a classic, Moonwalking with Einstein recounts Joshua Foer's yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top "mental athletes". He draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalist's trade to transform our understanding of human memory. From the United States Memory Championship to deep within the author's own mind, this is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.

Learning How to Learn
Revisado: 01-04-13
Would you listen to Moonwalking with Einstein again? Why?
Yes.because it made me try to organise my brain like I organise my computer instead of just throwing information at it.It explains what is wrong with modern education and how it could be corrected.Rote is cerbral gymnastics
Which scene was your favorite?
The idea of organising my mind like a piece of realestate!,it works!!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book should be made to be compulsory reading by all educators, before it is too late
Any additional comments?
This book draws attention on how to learn a function that is being lost rapidly over the last century.,i.e how to learn. If we organised our mind with as much attention as our computers we will have greatly improved cerebral function
