Historia
The Jedi have always traveled the stars, defending peace and justice across the galaxy. But, the galaxy is changing, and along with it, the Jedi Order. More and more, the Order finds itself focused on the future of the Republic, secluded on Coruscant, where the twelve members of the Jedi Council weigh crises on a galactic scale. As yet another Jedi Outpost leftover from the Republic’s golden age is set to be decommissioned on the planet Kwenn, Qui-Gon Jinn challenges the Council about the increasing isolation of the Order.

Unelected officials with tons of mystical power go and reach out to the people they're supposed to take care of. Lot of story to get to the point. I'll admit to listening with one ear at times. It's alright.

Revisado: 08-20-23
Another story that serves to show how mistaken the Jedi were in their approach to the Force. It also shows how, in our own world, refusing to see people for what they truly are can have dire consequences. Some people need more help than others. Good writing and a nice flavour to the narration.

Pulitzer Prize, Fiction, 2016. It is April 1975, and Saigon is in chaos. At his villa, a general of the South Vietnamese army is drinking whiskey and, with the help of his trusted captain, drawing up a list of those who will be given passage aboard the last flights out of the country. The general and his compatriots start a new life in Los Angeles, unaware that one among their number, the captain, is secretly observing and reporting on the group to a higher-up in the Viet Cong.

A testament to the power of literature. Though I know very little about this time and these people, I could see and hear them all through the text and the narration. I'm less and less hesitant to listen to fiction rather than read it.
The themes and ideas expressed here are quite relatable. This story tells the "one" story of humanity brilliantly as it examines the perseverance of this one community agent.
Excellent book!

Good Star Wars is somewhat political, y'all
Revisado: 06-14-23
it took me this long to realise that the path of the open hand is a Star Wars translation of far-right movements that prey on disenfranchised people. Led by a lying grifter who's in it for their own gain, they claim to try and restore a so-called natural order that has eluded civilization. But they don't account for people who don't think as they do, they even actively try and hurt them.
I'm not saying that the Mother is *that one guy*, but I'm not not saying it.
Marda thus appears as a tragic figure of the insecure and sensitive person who becomes corrupt when she first fights back and tastes power.
The Jedi are cool. Love wins.

Cal Kestis has built a new life for himself with the crew of the Stinger Mantis. Together, Cal’s crew has brought down bounty hunters, defeated Inquisitors, and even evaded Darth Vader himself. More important, Merrin, Cere, Greez, and faithful droid BD-1 are the closest thing Cal has had to a family since the fall of the Jedi Order. Even as the galaxy’s future grows more uncertain by the day, with each blow struck against the Empire the Mantis crew grows more daring.

This was a book
Revisado: 05-31-23
Let's just say that we've read better video game tie-ins. I like the Fallen Order cast a lot, but this felt like those episodes of Naruto that were produced because they were catching up to the manga and needed to pass the time.
Not yet knowing what happens in Survivor, I can't appreciate what it does for character development but the story in itself feels very forgettable.
The narration moves around and almost everyone has a pov moment here and there. It's kinda hard to know who's the main character. The overall tone is (for my taste) a bit too modern and internet-culture like. I like my Star Wars to read and sound like it is removed from us, but it's just me.
Unfortunately, I stopped caring about this book as soon as it ended. I don't particularly enjoy this feeling, but it is what it is.

It's intriguing enough and starts to give context and backstory to some of the elements of phase 1. I didn't pay the closest attention all the way through but it was interesting enough. I'm ok board for what comes next

Historia
Obi-Wan Kenobi has not been apprenticed long to Qui-Gon Jinn, and he is chafing at Qui-Gon's training style: all meditation, no action. Obi-Wan yearns to prove himself on a mission, but when he and Qui-Gon are finally set to leave on an assignment, Qui-Gon is nowhere to be found. Angered by his master's abandonment, Obi-Wan sets out on the mission alone, determined to prove himself. On a mysterious planet he encounters a pack of feral, Force-wielding teens who seem to be the planet's only inhabitants.

A good book for a bad story
Revisado: 07-25-22
If, like me, you consider The Rise of Skywalker to be an awful end to the saga in many ways, you'll find some of the stupid elements in this book. Yet, in this stupid context, the book works. Mostly. The plot is solid, the new characters are alright. However, something is bugging me: plenty of Lando's pain about the kidnapping of his daughter (a thoroughly stupid decision by the IX team), yet no word about what the mother feels, which is weird. One would hope that both parents would be affected by this loss. Anyway. The Sith stuff is alright, and although it brings new entries into lore and canon, it feels like a side quest, which is probably why it's a book. It's a small, episodic event that should feel bigger, yet it doesn't. The connections to larger SW canon are well made. Here's one author who collaborates with the story group!
The performance is good. I don't hate Thompson, but I do appreciate a break from his voice. There's just two voices that don't work: Beaumont Kin (stupid character) with the French accent and Pryde with an American one. That's sort of a continuity mistake but it doesn't matter much.
All in all, a good book.
