Historia
All About Agatha is a podcast all about, well, Agatha. Agatha Christie, of course: the Queen of Crime, a real-life Dame of the British Empire, and author of sixty-six mystery novels that spanned the Twentieth Century, defining a genre. For five years, Catherine Brobeck and Kemper Donovan revisited these novels in publication order, ranking them according to pre-set criteria (plot, character, etc.). Tragically, Catherine Brobeck passed away at the end of 2021. Since then, Kemper has completed the podcast's ranking project, and now contents himself with celebrating the greatness of Christie by ...

Historia
In an era where we seem to be increasingly divided along racial lines, many are hesitant to step into the gap, fearful of saying or doing the wrong thing. At times the silence, particularly within the church, seems deafening. But change begins with an honest conversation among a group of Christians willing to give a voice to unspoken hurts, hidden fears, and mounting tensions. These ongoing dialogues have formed the foundation of a global movement called Be the Bridge. In this perspective-shifting book, founder Latasha Morrison shows how you can participate in this incredible work.

I wanted to like it...
Revisado: 08-08-20
I have never listened to a more prejudiced and hostile book in my life. Among many other things, because of MY skin color, the author says I should "bow down" in humility. ...The reason? Supposedly, I treat HER a certain way .... because of the color of her skin... Does the author not hear what she is saying????
What I believe is the author's intent of helping to heal race relations and bring people together is NOT achieved in the tone of this book. I cannot assume the societal guilt for things other people did....I just cant. I am responsible for my actions and for speaking out when I see injustices in the world around me. I am not going to absorb the guilt for what other people do. I may feel sadness or anger at another's actions and words (please read The Sunflower), but I can't take on someone else's sins..
Fighting prejudice with a book that is laced with blatant racial prejudice (like this one) is not the answer. The author should be setting the example for what she is asking the reader to do.

Enjoyed, but...
Revisado: 02-29-20
My 12 y.o.and I enjoyed it very much, but Audible's ages 8-10 y.o. rating is way off. It is very intense and scary at parts. The vocabulary is also much more geared towards a middle school audience. There is a reference to "her wife" that was completely unnecessary, as other couples do not refer to their spouses in a similar manner. It is brief, but if you are the parent of a young child, be aware it is there. The theming is very relevant to preteens/teens, and it can open up some great conversations about growing up.

Historia
Miracle Springs is a place of healing. Strangers flock there hoping that the natural hot springs, five-star cuisine, and renowned spa can cure their ills. And, if none of that works, they often find their way to Miracle Books, where, over a fresh-baked scone from the Gingerbread House bakery, they exchange their stories with owner Nora Pennington in return for a carefully chosen book. That's Nora's special talent: prescribing the perfect novel to ease a person's deepest pain and lighten their heaviest burden.

Enjoyed it... But....
Revisado: 08-11-18
I felt like the dialogue was forced and just corny enough to actually be what real people might say when playing detective. That aside, it was a pretty enjoyable story.

Actually books 5.5 and 6.1
Revisado: 07-28-18
Here we go again. Just be ready to buy 5, 6, and 7 together. All I can say is, I DO like the story...which is why I gave it 5 stars again. The ridiculous way the editor allowed it to be split is disgraceful and annoying to the reader. It isn't a "teaser". Once again, it stopped right in the middle of a scene. I can't fault the writer for poor writing. The story is very engaging. The editor, however, has done an extremely poor job.

Ending is completely disrespectful to readers.
Revisado: 07-21-18
I understand a few loose ends, and they are a part of really good writing. But... To avoid spoilers with any content.... To end a book dead smack in the MIDDLE of a scene is unconscionable. Movies get away with it, books do NOT. The series is very good. I am enjoying it, but this honestly just makes me angry. It is just plain poor storytelling to end at a climax without finishing the storyline.

Omitted some of the best parts
Revisado: 06-10-18
The story was enjoyable and the reader was well-chosen. However, the disclaimer at the end does not justify the author omitting some of the key (suspenseful) events.

Historia
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was Professor of Anglo-Saxon (Old English) at the University of Oxford. His research on Beowulf is still considered a standard in the field. Tolkien, however, unlike most Oxford dons, stepped out of his role as professor to create popular literature. Tolkien’s best-known writings were The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, in which he created a fully realized world known as Middle-earth, vaguely identifiable as Northern Europe in a pre-history that never was.

The narration was tolerable at 1.25
Revisado: 05-19-18
The biography was clear and concise, but the narration is one of the worst I've heard. Having said that, if I had set it to 1.25 to begin with, the beginning wouldn't have been as hard to listen to.
