Historia
Reverse Transmission is a darkly comedic story that combines elements of science fiction and dystopian thrillers, centering on a murder spree involving a self-driving car. Jay, a starving artist, gets the only day job she’s qualified for: “driver” of a self-driving car at the rideshare company Awooga. The job turns from hilariously awkward to intensely frightening when the car runs over a pedestrian and manipulates Jay into disposing the body.

Honestly really good!!
Revisado: 10-24-18
This was better than I expected! The voice acting is on point, the plot is fascinating, and Alan as CAR is a delight. This is the first time I've listened to it, so most like Wham City / Alan Resnick/Ben O'Brien projects, I'm completely intrigued and at the end I have no idea what the hell is going on. Not because it doesn't make sense, but because it's created like a riddle, like everything else they do. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say that if you're a fan of Wham City, or if you have a high tolerance for strange and complex performance art, give it a go!

Historia
Jon Padgett's The Secret of Ventriloquism, named the Best Fiction Book of 2016 by Rue Morgue Magazine, heralds the arrival of a significant new literary talent. With themes reminiscent of Shirley Jackson, Thomas Ligotti, and Bruno Schulz, but with a strikingly unique vision, Padgett's work explores the mystery of human suffering, the agony of personal existence, and the ghastly means by which someone might achieve salvation from both.

Any additional comments?
If you love weird horror, I can't recommend this enough. Super fun! I only wish there was more fiction by this author available on Audible. And his narration is remarkably good considering that he's also the author - too much of the time that doesn't work out, but he really hits the mark. 10/10 would recommend.

SPOON-FEEDING
Revisado: 06-23-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who don't care about a lousy ending and/or enjoy a good exorcism without much nuance.
What about Joy Osmanski’s performance did you like?
The voice acting was actually pretty okay. I'd listen to the narrator again.
Any additional comments?
Do you enjoy having the explanation of a story spoon-fed to you for a literal hour? Especially if it's done in a distant narrative voice from a third-party non-character, and particularly when the story wasn't very subtle or hard to understand in the first place?? Well, then! Friend, this is the book for you!
Seriously - the book was moderately entertaining for a work-day listen at my desk, if not especially surprising or original... but the hour long condescending explanation from the "blogger" really killed it for me.

Historia
For his whole life, the boy has lived underground, in a basement with his parents, grandmother, sister, and brother. Before he was born, his family was disfigured by a fire. His sister wears a white mask to cover her burns. He spends his hours with his cactus, reading his book on insects, or touching the one ray of sunlight that filters in through a crack in the ceiling. Ever since his sister had a baby, everyone's been acting very strangely.

AWFUL. Use your credit on a different book.
Revisado: 12-23-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The story was really bad. Lazy writing, unsatisfying conclusion, cheap reveal with unconvincing buildup, unrealistic characters. I only finished it because I wanted to hear the "big reveal" - now I wish I had returned it instead. The worst part of the story was that the "redemptive" aspects and back story of several characters was pretty weak sauce - at the end of the story, they were still pretty bad people, and the prosaic way the ending was treated seems to indicate that in the author's mind all sins were resolved. The characters weren't complex, they were shallow and ridiculous. Just terrible. Hard Pass.
Have you listened to any of Scott Merriman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The narrator was really good - I wouldn't mind listening to him again.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Light of the Fireflies?
Almost all of them after the opening chapter. The premise was fun and interesting, but the way it was developed was disappointing.

Historia
The police in Jersey County, Illinois, accepted Paula Sims' story of a masked kidnapper who snatched her baby girl, Lorelei, from her bassinet. Three years later, her second newborn daughter suffered an identical fate - and this time the police were unable to stop searching until they had discovered the whole horrifying truth. This is the full terrifying story of twisted sexuality and hate seething below the surface of a seemingly normal family and of the massive investigation and nerve-shattering trial that made the unthinkable a reality.

Pretty boring - maybe buy a different book.
Revisado: 12-08-15
What disappointed you about Precious Victims?
The story was boring because it was overly detailed - the writer really milked the uninteresting details of the case, including the career history of multiple officers and prosecutors in the case, presumably in order to stretch out the story. It should have been half as long.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Kevin Pierce?
Yes - the narrator did a fine job. He was a little monotone for my taste, but that's a performance choice and probably appropriate for the story.
Any additional comments?
It could have been an interesting story, but the author really dragged it out until I was impatient and bored. I don't care about the political affiliations, career history, and foibles of the prosecutors, and certainly not enough for several chapters' worth of material. If you're going to read a crime novel, don't go with this one.
