Historia
Kelly Bishop’s long, storied career has been defined by landmark achievements, from winning a Tony Award for her turn in the original Broadway cast of A Chorus Line to her memorable performance as Jennifer Grey’s mother in Dirty Dancing. But it is probably her iconic role as matriarch Emily in the modern classic Gilmore Girls that cemented her legacy. Now, Bishop reflects on her remarkable life and looks towards the future with The Third Gilmore Girl. She shares some of her greatest stories and the life lessons she’s learned on her journey.

I read it in less than 24 hours!
Revisado: 11-16-24
Kelly’s story is fascinating, and having come from a musical theatre background myself, I found it intriguing and very relatable. Only a portion of it is focused on Gilmore Girls, but there is so much about her life and career that I did not know!

Historia
Sara Crewe is the brightest, richest, and most generous girl in Miss Minchin’s school for girls, and her father gives her everything she might desire. But when her beloved father dies, Sara’s friends and prized possessions are suddenly taken away, and she is banished to the attic and forced to work as a common drudge. Fed only crumbs, she still saves enough to feed her pet rat, and she tells wonderful stories to comfort Becky, the kitchen maid.

Historia
Otherwise known as the “Roma” or by their popular misnomer “the gypsies”, the members of this highly undervalued and grossly misrepresented community have long been considered outcasts. More often than not, the Romani are branded by even those who fancy themselves liberals as “pikeys”, “gyppos”, and “gips”. There's also a regrettably common term “gypped” meaning “to cheat, or swindle” which perpetuates the damaging stereotype that the Roma are dishonest nuisances and societal pests.

Thank you

I am Romani and my mother was from Romania. I was adopted internationally. Thank you for this informative historical perspective on my people. It saddens me that so much of the oppression is still going on today, but I know more fully that I come from a line of strong, resilient people.

Historia
What if searching for “the one” is getting in the way of your journey of self-discovery? What if singlehood wasn’t just a stepping stone to marriage? As a single 20-something in search of answers to these questions, author and entrepreneur Esther Marie leans into self-discovery and finds a life of boundless adventure. Living in the tension of uncertainty about the future, Esther chronicles eight years of her life, including awkward dating stories, solo travels, deconstructed beliefs, refueled faith, a near-death encounter with a bear, and way too many camping trips.

A refreshing perspective on both singleness and pursuing a life of adventure with God! Thank you, Esther! There is such power in narratives and sometimes even more so than “how-to” books.

Historia
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.
