Historia
Verity Jane, gifted app whisperer, takes a job as the beta tester for a new product: a digital assistant, accessed through a pair of ordinary-looking glasses. "Eunice", the disarmingly human AI in the glasses, manifests a face, a fragmentary past, and a canny grasp of combat strategy. Realizing that her cryptic new employers don’t yet know how powerful and valuable Eunice is, Verity instinctively decides that it’s best they don’t.

Historia
In the first century, under Domitian's reign, strange and brutal goings on are nothing new in Rome. Flavia Albia, daughter of Marcus Didius Falco, has taken over her father's business as a private informer but she tries to shy away from the brutal, the complicated, and the political—because nothing good comes of any of them. Unfortunately, she's not very good at turning them down. This time a commission shows up on her doorstep—someone is staging brutal murders in some of the most beautiful buildings in Rome, each staging different.

Albia and her families are excellent, I just kept getting dust in my eyes towards the end.

Historia
In ancient Rome, the number of slaves was far greater than that of free citizens. As a result, often the people Romans feared most were the "enemies at home," the slaves under their own roofs. Because of this, Roman law decreed that if the head of a household was murdered at home, and the culprit wasn't quickly discovered, his slaves - all of them, guilty or not - were presumed responsible and were put to death...without exception.

As good as any Falco story, maybe better
Revisado: 10-02-21
I have seen many reviews critical of the post Falco stories, and can find no justification for it. The three I’ve read so far are just as compelling as human interactions and detective fiction. Again, keep up the good work!!!

Historia
Flavia Albia is the adopted daughter of Marcus Didius Falco and Helena Justina. From her mother, she learned how to blend in at all levels of society; from her father, she learned the tricks of their mutual professional trade. But her wits and (frequently) sharp tongue are hers alone. Now, working as a private informer in Rome during the reign of Domitian, Flavia has taken over her father’s old ramshackle digs at Fountain Court in the Surbura district, where she plies her trade with energy, determination, and the usual Falco luck.

Not Falco, but so what…
Revisado: 09-28-21
I don’t find too many authors with voices (written voice, not physically reading) I really enjoy, but Davis could probably write a dictionary and I’d enjoy it. Although it name checked Falco and the others from earlier books a few times this was fresh and new. Well done, keep up the good work.

Excellent but sad
Revisado: 09-22-21
Perfect detective fiction by the author once again. Sort of the end of an era, but the chronology of Falco could allow for many others within the time line. Keep up the good work!!!

Historical but not dusty
Revisado: 07-01-21
I’d heard the BBC dramatizations of this and while I enjoyed them immensely it is so much better hearing the whole story. Like a hard boiled noir detective at times to a slow Christy detective at others. First audible download, was happy to find out from the author that Audible actually pays royalties for my listening. I usually don’t think about that because most of the authors I like are deceased. Will definitely listen to more by Davis.
