Historia
Widowhood has offered Joan Durbin the chance to experience life as she never has before. When rumors of an agency of male courtesans in London bring her face-to-face with Sir Piers Lovelace, she is introduced to a world of enticing pleasures - those of domination and submission, pleasure and discipline, and utter abandon. Her brazen nature and uninhibited charm make it difficult to remember that their arrangement is one of pleasurable business only. Neither is looking for love, but both will be hard-pressed to deny its call.

This was an very entertaining story with engaging characters. Both Piers and Joan had devastating experiences in the past. Now, Joan had been a widow for a number of years and she was attempting something new, she had certain specifations. Sir Piers Lovelace was just the man to accommodate her requirements. Could anything deeper come from this relationship and would they be able to trust each other to say how they felt? I just loved the ending! I did enjoy this book when I first read it but I enjoyed it even more as an audiobook. Darcy Stark’s narration really brought the characters to life and his voice was easy to listen to.

Ursula had an unusual childhood, in that she often went to her father’s factory and studied the bookkeeping. However, her uncle had very different views on a woman’s place. Ursula is a determined person and takes matters into her own hands. She escapes to go to her friend, who lives in Scotland. Rye has come to Scotland to accept his inheritance as the Earl’s heir. He is a Texan and is much more relaxed about things than his relatives. There are a number of strange happenings at the castle and an attraction between Rye and Ursula develops but Rye is destined to marry one of his cousins. Rye does have a strong sense of duty but will he let this guide him? This is a mystery concerning the deaths of the previous heirs. This was an entertaining story with likeable characters. The narrator changed his voice and accent to bring the characters to life.

Danger and romance
Revisado: 07-09-21
This was a very entertaining story. Flora, the laird’s daughter is determined to avenge her father’s death. She does act without thinking things through, at times, but she does have good intentions, well according to her thinking. Ragnell, the laird, Flora has handfasted with, is a strong, brave and handsome leader. He hasn’t had an easy life, with suspicions cast about him. Ragnell and Flora are very attracted to each other but her father’s death is between them and someone else is also out for revenge. The narrator read the story well, with just the right accent for me. He changed his voice for the different characters, to bring them to life.

I was waiting for Benedict’s story and wasn’t disappointed. This was a captivating story that told of Benedict’s reuniting with his former lover Alex. Their story is told through flashbacks to when they first met in their earlier days. However, Ben had felt such heartache over the past and wasn’t sure he could forgive Alex. There are also some untold matters to be revealed. There is also the matter of the London Gossip and her threat to Ben’s livelihood, not to mention his excuse of a father. This story will keep you gripped until the end and believe me, the end is well worth waiting for! The narrator, Darcy Stark has an easy voice to listen to and he changes his voice for the different characters, to bring them to life.

Historia
During the Middle Ages, a peasant's superstition held that a mother mourning the death of her child could "sell her sorrow" by selling a nail from her child's coffin to a peddler. Lady Celeste is overwhelmed with grief when her infant son dies. Desperate to find relief, she escapes the convent where her husband has sent her to recover and begs a passing peddler to buy her sorrow. Jean, the cynical peddler she meets, is nobody’s fool; he does not believe in superstitions and insists Celeste include the valuable ruby ring on her finger along with the nail in return for his coin.

An engaging story.
Revisado: 02-26-21
This was a fascinating story, full of meticulous and interesting facts about medieval France. The picture painted was so vividly, I felt as though I was there. The storyline followed Lady Celeste and Jean the peddler, the way in which their paths crossed and the consequences. I did think that Celeste was immature in her actions but then she was just seventeen and had suffered a traumatic event. I did feel it was a little slow at first but it gathered in pace as the story progressed. I was pleased to read that there will be further books about the characters. The narrator’s voice was easy to listen to and she changed her voice for the different characters.

Revisado: 02-23-21
This was a very entertaining set of stories. The characters, Edwina and Eleanor, Iris and Hugh, Cynthia and Wesley, Grace and Alex, are either friends (olds and new) or siblings. Some of the antics that Eleanor and in especially, Cynthia, get up to are most amusing, particularly at the dinner party. All the men are believer’s in domestic discipline and demand exacting behaviour. I found the narrator’s voice easy to listen to and she did change her tone for the different characters.

A fascinating story.
Revisado: 01-13-21
This was a fascinating story. It really had the flavour of the times, with the deep held religious beliefs and also the superstitions that were believed. The main character was Melisande, the wife of Simon, a blacksmith. There was a mystery as to how Simon had met his death during the Crusades. Something that Lord Charles seems to know more about than he says. It illustrated how difficult it was to be a business woman in what was very much a man’s world. Also, how a Lord was all important and powerful. Melisande was a strong and brave woman who was determined to do the best for her family. The only part I didn’t enjoy was the ending, although it was all resolved, it finished quite abruptly. The narrator performed an excellent reading, changing her voice to suit the characters and bringing the story to life.

Revisado: 12-14-20
This was an entertaining story. I did feel for Sebastian and his struggles with his wolf side. Estelle, too, had her problems but they did feel a strong connection to one another, However, their time together is limited. There were a few other couples that featured and I assume they had their own stories in previous books. I thought the narrator read the story well for the male parts but the female parts either sounded like a young child or someone much older. If you enjoy a story with elements of paranormal then I’m sure you would enjoy it.

An enthralling story
Revisado: 11-17-20
This was such a good story. David and Regina were just right for each other. Regina had suffered an horrendous marriage and it had left her with trust problems. David was so patient, understanding and considerate of Regina’s needs. I enjoyed their growing relationship but there was still the matter of Regina’s determination of not marrying again. Added to this is the ongoing drama with Benedict and the mystery behind the London Gossip. I just had to mention Powell, Regina’s butler/footman, who wouldn’t want a man like that on your side! This story was enhanced by the narration of Darcy Stark, who really brought the characters to life by using different voices.

Revisado: 11-11-20
I did enjoy this very much. Josie is a widow and is longing for an adventure. She sure is a sassy lady and not afraid to go along with her desires. Benedict is a much younger man and has quite a reputation with the ladies. Benedict does seem to be quite mature for his age in some respects. Could what starts as a wager develop into something more and would the age gap make a difference? The narrator, Annaliese Rennie, has such an easy voice to listen to, the story just flowed. Annaliese really brought the characters to life .
