Starts a bit weaker but quickly becomes amazimg!
Revisado: 01-13-23
I was a bit disappointed at the beginning, the narration was a bit stiff and the story is centered around a huge revelatiom that I already knew from the book description. However, as the book progresses it becomes gripping, emotional, and oh so deep and powerful. And the narration becomes much better quickly. It is a fantastic book, and you should definitely not be put off if you don't love it at the start, you certainly will by the end!

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Shallow, repetitive, and dangerous
Revisado: 10-05-22
The first chapter had some interesting points that i enjoyed, but after that it goes on and on with the same points, without providing any evidence that they work except for some really bad anecdotes that sounds more like the author showing off.
My biggest issue with the book though is that it can be dangerous: it suggests that if you want to stop being unhappy, you can just put your mind on it and stop being unhappy! So easy. It criticizes get rich easy schemes but does the same for happiness. If you have OCD put your mind at it and it will be gone! If your son dies decide you're ok with it! Drug addict? Just decide you're better than that! And that's NOT how the brain works, and it can be dangerous, as it can make people feel like a failure because they can't overcome mental issues for example.
I couldn't finish it,and that's very rare for me. I will keep with me the only good point that i got, which is to focus my efforts on the things i really care about and start caring less for everything else - and it's not a very deep point either.

Historia
Is there a right way to study how the brain works? The most common approach involves the study of neural reactions to stimuli presented by an experimenter. György Buzsáki's The Brain from Inside Out examines why the outside-in framework for understanding brain function has become stagnant and points to new directions for understanding neural function. Building upon the success of 2011's Rhythms of the Brain, Professor Buzsáki presents the brain as a foretelling device that interacts with its environment through action and the examination of action's consequence.

Starts super strong, then rambles
Revisado: 10-02-22
The first few chapters, where he lays the general principles of the Inside Out idea, are amazing, so interesting and insightful. But then the book becomes overdetailed, sometimes irrelevant, sometimes just very boring. It was really hard to finish it, and I'm a neuroscientist myself.

Historia
Data is fundamental to the modern world. From economic development, to healthcare, to education and public policy, we rely on numbers to allocate resources and make crucial decisions. But because so much data fails to take into account gender, treating men as the default and women as atypical, bias and discrimination are baked into our systems. And women pay tremendous costs for this bias in time, money, and often with their lives. Celebrated feminist advocate Caroline Criado Perez investigates the shocking root cause of gender inequality and research in Invisible Women.

Strong points, but some examples are exaggerated
Revisado: 06-15-22
This book makes really strong, powerful, clear points and supports them with a mountain of data. Plus when you read it you think of other examples that you know but never realized what they meant, adding to the books power. After reading it, I couldn't agree with it more.
My problem is that, while most data provided is completely out of my expertise, out of the ones i do know of, a couple are somewhat exaggerated. Also, there were a couple examples that i found so absolutely outrageous and mind boggling that i searched for them online, and a couple times found them to be exaggerated (example below). These things make me wonder how many of the other data provided is also exaggerated, and decreases the credibility of the whole book.
These is crearly soooo much data to support this book's claims (including several examples that i did search for and found are correctly represented), so I'm sad that some examples are exaggerated, as it allows people to discredit the whole book just on a couple points. I wish the book only included the most clear, conclusive, and provable examples, making the same points. It would make it shorter, easier to diggest, but also way stronger.
Example:
At one point the book says "After the 2005 tsunami in Sri Lanka, the rebuilding team did not include women and so they built houses without kitchens". I found this insane, so i googled it and what i found is that "Many new houses incorporated expensive sources of fuel for cooking (gas/electric) which the family could not afford and did not offer a kitchen which could accommodate firewood cooking." Which, sure, is a problem that could've been fixed by asking women more - but clearly the way it's phrased in the book is missleading and exaggerated. And so it makes me question other claims in the book.

Quite disapointing, a very vague book with very few in-depth stories about any woman. Seems more like a retetitive intro to a book that a full book itself. would not recommend

I liked how the characters overcome the fear of not being good or special enough, and the hope of a hero that might save them. But other than that, the story had so many unexplained things that don't make any sense. Maybe children would not notice it as much, but i certainly did.

Historia
In this groundbreaking history of the modern American metropolis, Richard Rothstein explodes the myth that America's cities came to be racially divided through de facto segregation - that is, through individual prejudices, income differences, or the actions of private institutions like banks and real estate agencies. Rather, he incontrovertibly makes clear that it was de jure segregation - the laws and policy decisions passed by local, state, and federal governments - that actually promoted the discriminatory patterns that continue to this day.

Revisado: 08-23-20
I got this audiobook because i wanted to hear more about how a large corporation could hide such a huge fraud for so long - and it delivers, explaining the management style and organization, institutionalized fear and atmosphere that can lead to it. But it also shows how hard it can be to open the can of worms, even when you know you're right, and how corporations can make your life miserable to prevent it. It's great to hear the story from the whistleblower's point of view, his journey, the obstacles, and finally getting past it. Just fantastic.

Brilliant job explaining such a sensitive topic
Revisado: 05-12-20
Twisted goes into details about the facts of what happened, what effects it had, and why it was allowed to keep happening. It is very objective and thorough, given the survivor victims space and bringing in specialists too. I wish more of the people involved in sweeping it under the rug came forward and intervened, i would've loved to hear their explanations and apologies. But great job from the authors and performers regardless.
