A heart-wrenching new novel from best-selling author Rebecca Yarros that examines the risks we take for love, the scars too deep to heal, and the endings we can't bring ourselves to see coming.

Not a 4.7 for me.
Revisado: 01-10-25
I thought the dialogue was absolutely cringe-worthy made worse by listening to this book rather than being able to skim it. I did give it two stars because of the ending twist and the idea of not wasting a single day, especially for those who were living through WW II.
I honestly do not get the high ratings AND I must admit, I did not shed a tear due the eye-rolling dialogue.
I rarely give low ratings, but I felt a little duped into reading this. Fortunately, it was free this month, I would have hated to spend money on this title.

Not my favorite Louise Penny
Revisado: 10-18-21
This book started strong, interesting and was sure to be one of my favorite of Louise Penny's books. But after the 8th or 9th hour of multitudes of non-stop guesses on who done it, with so many characters as possible suspects, and even the team continually disagreeing, it just got to the point, that I lost interest...and that has never happened before with Chief Inspector Gamache and his team.
I did have some skipping but did not realize this was a common issue with other readers as well.

Historia
Nick Winters and Noel Carter have known each other their whole lives. After years of shared family holidays, working together on the Winters’ Christmas tree farm, and being each other's safe haven, they wouldn't dream of crossing the line from friends to something more.... But when Nick comes home for the holidays after serving overseas and finds that his long-term girlfriend has decided to get her stocking stuffed elsewhere, Noel is there to pick him up and show him that instead of a Blue Christmas he can still have a Wonderful Christmastime without his cheating ex.

Simple Story made worse by narration
Revisado: 12-12-20
Why do male narrators feel the need to try to mimic a female voice? And a voice from the 1950's all american mom voice?
I was not expecting a great american novel, just a fun romance. The dialogue mixed with the male narrator made this book impossible to enjoy. I was done by the middle of Chapter 2. Life is too short.

Not for me
Revisado: 02-23-19
I can always enjoy an easy-going, good ole chic lit book. But this was not easy going and not good. For me it was painstakingly annoying. I wish I would have listened to a bit of it before downloading. Conversations are overdone and voices are over the top. I just wasn't hip enough to enjoy. :0

Too much of a good thing....
Revisado: 09-20-16
I loved all of the Lunar Chronicles until Winter. It was truly never-ending. The editing of the previous books was right on...just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, wanting more. However, it seems that was not the case for the final book. Although I began reading the book with excitement, the book became much too long with every minute detail being written.
If you've read the other books in the series, you HAVE to read this book. However, be prepared to be a bit less enthusiastic.

Historia
From Lauren Graham, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, comes a witty, charming, and hilariously relatable debut novel about a struggling young actress trying to get ahead - and keep it together - in New York City. It’s January 1995, and Franny Banks has just six months left of the three-year deadline she set for herself when she came to New York, dreaming of Broadway and doing "important" work. But all she has to show for her efforts so far is a part in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters, and a gig waiting tables at a comedy club....

An enjoyable show does not mean an enjoyable book.
Revisado: 09-20-16
I will admit I bought this book because I love Gilmore Girls. I recognized it would be "chic lit" and I am always up for a fun chic lit adventure. This book was so disappointing. The writing was weak, the narration annoying, and quite honestly, I have started and stopped so many times, that I am not sure I will ever be able to finish. The main character's immaturity, the narration of the phone messages, the continual self talk, forces me to stop listening. This is one book where the multiple favorable reviews are a bit of a mystery to me.
I love Gilmore Girls and will stick to watching the reunion show and be satisfied. However, no more Lauren Graham books for me.

It was OK
Revisado: 07-19-13
The narrative of the characters in this book really annoyed me. I like a sensitive man, but honestly, what a sap! Some have complained about the narrator, but I think it was what he had to work with that made his performance less than stellar.
I did finish the book, just really wanted to see how it was going to all come together. However, I would not necessarily encourage others to spend their time listening.

A good (but not great) read
Revisado: 07-19-13
I enjoyed this book and was interested enough to keep wanting to read more. There were a few parts that I thought it started to drag a bit, but those were few and far between. I like the way the author unraveled the story and even though there were several time periods, and several perspectives, it was easy to follow. Sometimes, with audio books, there are so many switches I just wish I could go back a couple of chapters to regroup. This was not the case with "The Secret Keeper".

Historia
> The Chaperone is a captivating novel about the woman who chaperoned an irreverent Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. Only a few years before becoming a famous actress and an icon for her generation, a 15-year-old Louise Brooks leaves Wichita to make it big in New York. Much to her annoyance, she is accompanied by a thirty-six-year-old chaperone who is neither mother nor friend. Cora Carlisle is a complicated but traditional woman with her own reasons for making the trip.

It was O.K.
Revisado: 06-01-13
Did not find it nearly as interesting as other reviewers. I thought it was overly detailed about some parts, and under detailed in others. I enjoyed the review of view points and life style of the era, but found the relationships in the book mundane. I did finish the book, but I won't be recommending this book to others.

An Unexpected Surprise
Revisado: 05-11-13
I had downloaded this book with the intent of it being one of my lighter reads. I was pleasantly surprised. This is not your usual light read. It was a very emotional read for me. I found myself laughing and crying as I listened. It is difficult to write much about this book without exposing the story. My recommendation is to listen to it....I think it is a credit and time well spent!
