Historia
Even as a child in 1910, Sara Glikman knows her gift: she is a maker of matches and a seeker of soulmates. But among the pushcart-crowded streets of New York’s Lower East Side, Sara’s vocation is dominated by devout older men—men who see a talented female matchmaker as a dangerous threat to their traditions and livelihood. After making matches in secret for more than a decade, Sara must fight to take her rightful place among her peers, and to demand the recognition she deserves.

Wonderful and Heartfelt story

Such a refreshing story weaving the past with current characters. As an audio book, the voices were excellent and engaging which made the story and message truly memorable. This book would make a poignant series for streaming.

Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Amazingly interesting & captivating

I’m a 73 year old avid listener of books and this title would not have been on my radar screen except for its continual mentions on top book lists for 2022. Gaming is also generally a foreign genre for women in my age group. I adored this book not only for the in depth storytelling and humanized characters but also the audio presentation. I’m not sure I would have appreciated this novel without listening to it. Extremely worthy of my time.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

The house is the story!

An interesting story that was made enjoyable because of Tom Hank’s expressive storytelling! It’s slow and purposeful with a cast of dysfunctional characters. One feels they are sitting in a room with Tom and he has become Danny, one of the main characters. I was actually sad when the story ended because I so much enjoyed the presentation style. I grew up not far from Elkins Park, PA so the themed location was also of interest to me. Not my favorite book of this summer but I appreciate the writing style of the author.
