Historia
Legends abound of the glorious - or infamous - deeds of the emperor's sons. Yet almost nothing is known of Alpharius, the most mysterious of them all, for the lord of the Alpha Legion is unparalleled in the art of obfuscation. Such are his gifts of secrecy and deceit that even his rediscovery has remained an enigma - until now. But when the tale comes from the serpent’s mouth, where do the lies end and the truth begin?

Really Good
Revisado: 08-20-24
I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. The use of first person narration is fantastic. Alpharius seems to be around imperial history about the same way Forrest Gump does. It's a great listen.

Historia
Born to a life of political conflict, Perturabo was always considered a child prodigy among the people of Olympia - indeed, his philosophical and scientific works were beyond compare. But then, after his rediscovery by the Emperor and decades of thankless military campaigning on the Great Crusade, the primarch begins to resent his Legion's place in the Imperium.

Pretty tragic
Revisado: 07-12-24
I love the iron warriors and their cold logic. I felt that Angel Exterminatus gave us another view of Perturabo being more than a bitter manchild and siege of terra flashes that out a little more. In the Magnus book, Pert is a jerk to Magnus and then in the same scene says he loves him most. Then we have this, it's the old Perturabo lore. He's snide and ungrateful, petulant. The story is excellent, but Perturabo makes it hard to like him.

Truly there was an end and the death. Congratulations to everyone who made it through all of these books. The circle is closed. There's some good stuff. Certainly not the strongest book of the series but no disappointment. Part of me is sad it's over. I really hope they write a scouring series now.

Historia
The walls have fallen, the gates are breached, and the defenders are slain. It is the end and the death. After seven brutal years of civil war, the Warmaster stands on the verge of victory. Horus Lupercal, once beloved son, has come to murder his father. The Emperor, a shining beacon of hope to many, an unscrupulous tyrant to others, must die. The lives of uncountable numbers have been extinguished and even primarchs, once thought immortal, have been laid low. The Emperor's dream lies in tatters, but there remains a sliver of hope.

colossal tome with colossal call backs
Revisado: 05-09-24
I do not care for the second person narration when we get Horus POV but other than that, no complaints. This book definitely packs in a lot and it's clear as to why there are 3 of them. Nothing is rushed. They take their time. I can't wait to start the next.

The Warmaster’s horde advances through the fire and ash of Terra's dying breaths, forcing the loyalists back to the Delphic Battlement—the very walls of the Sanctum Imperialis. Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters and Herald of Horus, has achieved immortality through annihilation—now he leads the armies of the damned in a wrathful tide, destroying all before them as the warp begins its poisonous corruption of Terra's very soil.

ADB never disappoints
Revisado: 04-25-24
There's so much to love about the contents of this story. Arkhan Land steals the show somehow, but the big centerpiece battle at the end is so good. As usual, ADB creates traitor characters worth looking through their lenses. This is the good stuff.

Plot dump
Revisado: 04-09-24
This was a slog to get through. the rumors are true. it's not a fun nor exciting story. there is a plot line or two that come to interesting conclusions but ultimately serve no purpose. it's like one big block of exposition. chug through friends, you've made it this far, may as well go through it to check the block. at least it's not damnation of pythos

Historia
Of all the Emperor’s sons who fell to Chaos, it is perhaps Magnus the Red whose tale is the most tragic. Sanctioned because of his desire for knowledge, chastised, judged, and shattered to his very elements – there is much for the Crimson King to feel vengeful for. Yet revenge is not the only thing that draws him to Terra alongside the Warmaster’s besieging armies. He seeks something, a fragment, the missing piece of himself that lies within the most impregnable place on the planet – the inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace.

A plot device, but good
Revisado: 03-24-24
Part of the issue of knowing how the story ends means certain things must happen. This story definitely has plot device stuck to it but the contents are good. The discussion at the end that determines who is on who's side though is painful dramatic irony.

Any chance of survival now requires sacrifice, but what battles dare he lose so that others can be won? Is there one tactical stroke, one crucial combat, that could turn the tide forever and win the war outright?

A slow burn that scalds by the end
Revisado: 03-21-24
to this point, the siege books start hard and keep the pace the whole time. this one takes a step back and is pondersome. as it should be, I suppose, it is about a gambit. John Grammaticus unfortunately gets a long stretch of time, but the rest is masterful.

The war for the fate of mankind blazes on. Though the outer defences have fallen, the walls of the Palace itself remain inviolate as Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian of Terra himself, uses every known stratagem and ploy to keep Horus' vast armies at bay. In Perturabo, the Traitor siegebreaker, Dorn faces an adversary worthy of his skill. A terrible, grinding attrition ensues. The crucial battle for the Lion's Gate spaceport is at the heart of this conflict. With it in their possession, the Traitors can land their most devastating weapons on Terran soil. Dorn knows it must not fall.
