As usual. Smooth plot that’s easy to follow even with its complexity.
Revisado: 07-21-24
The narrator was clear and concise with his accents and a dance. It allowed the listener to sail along the story line. The plot was all CJ Box, complex yet simple, in depth with the location and current times. Wonderfully executed story.

I have listening to joe Pickett from the start. The plots are getting wonderfully intriguing. The narrator has grown the characters and mastered the tone, even though the speed needs to run at 1.1. Great story.

Wayne Castine was found brutally murdered and the murderer remains at large. Castine, a suspected child predator, was killed in Brattleboro where he was involved with a tangled network of an extended family living in a local trailer park. Any member of the clan would have had the opportunity to kill him, and, as he was involved with both the mother and her 12 year old daughter, reason to commit the murder.

William dufries has a more natural voice for the joe Gunther series. This allows the listener to stop thinking about the voices and get submerged into the story line. As usual, excellent story.

Good story. Difficult adjustment to new narrator
Revisado: 03-10-22
After reading 19 books and associating the voice of Tom Taylorson as Joe Gunther, it was difficult to into the character listening to Christopher Graybill. While I feel the Graybill is a great reader his voice is no Taylorson. Graybill tried too hard to swing his vocal tones down into the low baratones, way out of his range. Great story, but found it difficult to get engulfed into the character and story when I have been listening to the entire series.

Historia
An off-duty Coast Guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behavior from a nearby boat. It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver...a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean. None of it makes sense unless there's something hinky going on, and his hunch is proved right when all three Guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed.

The story line was predictable and the protagonist did not exercise much intelligence. Story had such a long lead up that I was left wondering when the story would start.
