Historia
The apocalypse will be televised! You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Being stuck with her prize-winning show cat. And you know what’s worse than that? An alien invasion, the destruction of all man-made structures on Earth, and the systematic exploitation of all the survivors for a sadistic intergalactic game show. That’s what. Join Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world—or just get to the next level—in a video game–like, trap-filled fantasy dungeon.

I'll keep it short and sweet. I had been putting this book series off for years. It came highly recommended, but the genre and plot just didn't appeal to me. And boy was I wrong on both. The quirky humor, amazing characters & stellar narration really make this an extremely entertaining book to listen to on my commutes. I can't wait to hop in the car so I can hear what happens next. "Honey, can you go pick up X from the grocery store?", "NO PROBLEM BABE!" (puts in ear buds and goes to the furthest grocery....)

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

1st book of the series I was dissapointed with.
Revisado: 03-13-19
Spoilers ahead: It just felt so anti climactic. The story was build up to what was coming up to this final battle and it was just meh at best. With all the foreshadowing going on, I was expecting something more spectacular. I had thought that Minalan's wife Alia (sp?) would get some serious mojo behind her b/c of asking for Brigga's vengeance? Instead the battle is cut short. And we're transported months later and given a lil backstory of what happened. Just left me with an icky feeling.

Unfortunately this book was unbelievable for me.
Revisado: 12-11-13
Would you try another book from Ilsa J. Bick and/or Katherine Kellgren?
Maybe.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not sure yet.
Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favorite?
Tom
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Unsure.
Any additional comments?
The narrator was excellent! Highly recommend her reading books. But the story was just lacking and unbelievable. I love fiction, technology, etc... I love scifi, fantasy, you name it. But you have to mold a realistic story around those elements to lure me in. And I felt like the supporting characters were just too over the top. It seemed like 9/10th's of the elderly in this book suddenly became sadistic, diabolic & evil. Just didn't feel real to me.
