Ten years ago, legendary author Riley Cannon produced three of the best-selling thriller novels of all-time. Then, she vanished, leaving the final three books of the saga unfinished and producing the biggest mystery in the history of publishing. Now, a decade later, there is word from her mega-agent, the glamorous and powerful Topaz Kennedy, that a new Cannon novel is all-but-finished. Too much devoted to the lead character's hidden life. Not germane to the main plot.

Historia
RFK, Jr.’s views on vaccines and his penchant for questioning official narratives have kept him on the fringes of American politics for years. But now, as a third-party presidential candidate he is polling around 10% — enough to affect the outcome of an election that is expected to be decided on a razor-thin margin. In this lengthy sit-down, first published in September, 2023, Peter probes Kennedy’s unrelenting skepticism about a wide range of issues, from the war in Ukraine to the fentanyl epidemic — and whether he buys the official narratives about 9/11 and the moon landing.

A collection of gems.
Revisado: 03-14-24
The author's note calls this work a novel but it is actually a collection of stories that have a couple of common elements. Overall, the stories could be independent tales but the common aspect of the library helps tie them together. Each of the stories was well written and narrated. I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this work. Each tale was a gem and the collection is wonderful and worth reading/listening to.

Historia
Another mass shooting is making headlines in the United States. With it comes the familiar feeling of powerlessness. But a rare peek inside the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit reveals that at least some shootings are being prevented, using techniques to identify people headed down the ‘pathway to violence.’ In the absence of gun reform, agents share what ordinary people can do to help. And a mother recounts the harrowing story of how she discovered her son’s plans to shoot up a school — and what happened next.

Something still missing
Revisado: 02-18-24
Very strong focus on the specifics allowing people to identify potential problems and how to engage others (family, friends, and authorities) to mitigate the problem. However, the episode never got to the root cause for the increase in mass shootings. People have suffered in various ways for centuries. In the US, guns have been part of the culture since before the founding of the republic. The prime example of Columbine predates social media. So, what is causing the mass increase? Never addressed.

A good book may have the power to change the way we see the world, but a great book actually becomes part of our daily consciousness, pervading our thinking to the point that we take it for granted, and we forget how provocative and challenging its ideas once were - and still are. The Structure of Scientific Revolutions is that kind of book.

Turgid nonsense
Revisado: 12-30-23
I wanted to listen to this book as it is often referred to as a classic and seminal work in the history of science. While this may be true, the author (and the introduction by Ian Hacking) are so filled with turgid prose and concerned with academic minutiae that it becomes both difficult to follow and unbearable to listen to. Perhaps this book is one of those that require actual reading rather than narration.

The Real RFK Jr. is an intimate biographical portrait examining the controversial activist's journey from anguish and addiction to becoming the country's leading environmental champion fighting government corruption, corporate greed, and a captured media. Written by his longtime colleague Dick Russell, the biography also exposes the misconceptions and explains the rationale behind Kennedy's campaign to protect public health.

A memorable portrait
Revisado: 07-10-23
RFK jr is slightly younger than I so I was able to relate to many of his experiences in the time that he experienced them. We come from very different backgrounds, but I found it easy to relate to the man. I was especially interested in learning about his life between the catastrophic events of his childhood and where he stands now. This book filled in many gaps in my knowledge and I found myself admiring the way RFK JR overcame the severe trials of his early life. I definitely recommend this book.

Sour After-Taste
Revisado: 11-29-22
I have a very limited background in Geology, having studied Civil Engineering many years ago and had a required course as part of the foundational work. Thus, I found this work very interesting, from both the science and the human point of view. The author's enthusiasm was very catching, and the adventures were definitely interesting. I was immersed in the subject and the flow of the story until getting blind-sided by the last chapter. Without any preparation for the reader/listener, the author launched into a political screed that went off the charts about climate change, American politics, and other issues that were nowhere in evidence earlier in the book. Until the off-putting final chapter, I was considering the book either a 4- or 5-star work, but the rant at the end destroyed what was, until then, a very enjoyable journey. I strongly recommend stopping before the final chapter.

Historia
In the summer of 1937, Amelia Earhart is the most famous woman in the world - a record-breaking pilot, a best-selling author, and a modern woman shattering the glass ceiling in the early days of aviation. And then she vanishes. In Tampa, Florida, 15-year-old Lizzie Friedlander spends her afternoons glued to her father’s radio, tapping into the enormity of a world she longs to travel. Lizzie can hardly believe her ears when she picks up a radio signal from a faraway source that sets her heart racing: “Amelia Earhart calling SOS!”
