Cosy mystery meets spy novel and makes everyone tired
Revisado: 04-10-25
It should have been a jolly romp with little consequences, it ended up being a dull list of how plucky Americans who just keep their chins up eventually win the day over all other inferior races. Mrs Pollifax should go back to geraniums.
The racism isn’t witty, it’s tedious. The main characters are dull and one dimensional. The plot is absurd - though that can be forgiven if the rest of the writing is worth the suspension of belief. It isn’t. The narrator is fantastic which really annoys me because I can’t give it the 1 star it deserves.

Historia
For its own very good reasons, Scotland Yard sends Dover off to remote Creedshire to investigate the disappearance of a young housemaid, Juliet Rugg. Though there's every cause to assume that she has been murdered - she gave her favours freely and may even have stooped to a bit of blackmail - no body is to be found. Weighing in at 16 stone, she couldn't be hard to overlook. But where is she? And why should Dover, of all people, be called upon to find her? Or, for that matter, even bother to solve the damned case?

Whew prejudice and misogyny is only forgovable when it’s also well written. This book is predictable and tedious without a single intelligent or likeable character. Don’t bother. The narrator was good.

Great continuation of the ROL series!

Thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook - also thank you for not making Holbrook Smith not read in an American accent - and for the record, this narrator’s British accent is equally as rough as his American accent! Introducing new narrators helps to move the stories into different realms. Keep going, I look forward to the next one!

Historia
Sherlock Holmes-worshiping cowboys Big Red and Old Red Amlingmeyer have starred in five Holmes on the Range novels, rustling up award nominations and fans aplenty as they cracked mysteries using the methods of their English hero. How did these Old West drifters first discover Holmes, though? What were they doing before their novel adventures began? And how did their early, awkward stabs at "deducifying" turn out? These seven short stories provide the answers.

The reader was excellent staying ‘in character’ throughout.
The short stories were engaging and long enough to allow some work to be done whilst listening but not so long that it required leaving one unfinished for another time.

Historia
In Kindred, Neanderthal expert Becky Wragg Sykes shoves aside the cliché of the shivering ragged figure in an icy wasteland and reveals the Neanderthal you don’t know, who lived across vast and diverse tracts of Eurasia and survived through hundreds of thousands of years of massive climate change. Using a thematic rather than chronological approach, this book will shed new light on where they lived, what they ate and the increasingly complex Neanderthal culture that is being discovered.

Lacklustre
Revisado: 11-29-21
A will they-won’t- they romance set in a time the seems to fluctuate based around the dreams of a young woman who wants to create her own makeup line. Lacking consequences or any real follow up to actions and pivoting on a rather unnecessary adoration of bloodlines. Bland. The most detail went into the sex scenes which dragged on and on. You expect the main characters to get sick of one another’s inanities in the first week after achieving their dreams. Well read though, good narrator.

Captivating story
Revisado: 05-14-19
I enjoyed this book, well paced and written with flair. It’s setting and the cultural details are written well. The reading is unobtrusive and appropriate for the story. I really enjoyed the mixture of cultures and beliefs, and how they are written in without drawing attention to one side over another.
